Job Description:
Position is focused on the Barnes Center's integrated programming relating to Belonging and Thriving. The Outdoor Recreation Manager reports to the Associate Director for Outdoor Recreation and assists with managing and supervising all aspects of the team and leadership development areas including the indoor and outdoor challenge course and cross-country ski/snowshoe center programs and facilities. The Outdoor Recreation Manager will have personnel management responsibilities that include the training, development and supervision of one fulltime Coordinator and 30-40 student and non-student supervisors and facilitators.

The Outdoor Recreation Manager will develop, implement and evaluate policies and procedures related to the programs and facilities within their oversight including but not limited to, emergency action plans, standard and local operating procedures, equipment inspection and replacement as well as all other related program policies and administrative processes. This position assists with daily operations and management of Outdoor Recreation adventure trips and climbing wall operations as needed.

Responsibilities:
  • Supervise, implement and evaluate comprehensive challenge course, team building and leadership development programing including high and low element challenge course and mobile initiatives that support the Barnes Center integrated programming relating to Belonging and Thriving.
  • Manage scheduling, client recruitment, contracts, invoicing, registration, risk management, and program development.
  • Facilitate low and high challenge course and mobile initiative programs.
  • Manage hiring, training, scheduling, supervision, payroll and evaluation of Outdoor Recreation program staff.
  • Staff includes one fulltime Coordinator, 30-40 student and non-student supervisors and facilitators.
  • Provides leadership development and training for staff based on industry standards and best practices in the field of outdoor and experiential education.
  • Collect data relating to participation and participant satisfaction and learning.
  • Develop, implement and evaluate policies and procedures related to the programs and facilities including but not limited to, emergency action plans, standard and local operating procedures, equipment inspection and replacement as well as all other related program policies and administrative processes.
  • Manage operations of cross-country ski and snowshoe center including staffing, equipment rental, programming and transportation.
  • Assist with daily operations and management of Outdoor Recreation adventure trips and climbing wall as needed.
  • Ensure proper maintenance and compliance with applicable State and County regulations and industry standards.
  • Perform visual and tactile inspections of both indoor and outdoor challenge course hardware and equipment.
  • Inspect, maintain and purchase challenge course and cross-country ski equipment as needed.
  • Assist with scheduling and completing annual challenge course inspections.
  • Other duties as assigned.
