The Application Development (AD) B.A.S. Degree is a hands-on technical degree that helps prepare students for the tech industry. The AD program prepares students for positions such as, software developer, web developer, software engineer, and more. Instruction mirrors industry trends and features a strong emphasis on industry-based applied learning. The AD program began in 2014 at North Seattle College and has since seen an immense amount of growth. Due to the demand and increase in growth, the program added additional cohorts and currently runs four cohorts at all times. Not only has there been consistent student growth, there has also been an increase in industry interest and industry related engagement activities.
The primary purpose of the Intern/Hourly position is to tackle assignments, advise prospective students, develop original projects, and evolve existing ones, with the overall goal being to help the AD program grow a larger student base and build our industry-backed community. The role involves meeting with prospective students to advise on program pathways, which include in-person student meetings, phone calls, class presentations and other outreach related events. Collaborating with AD staff on other projects will be expected and may include, but not limited to, marketing plans, industry related events, and updating current program content as needed.
This is a temporary position until January 2020 with a possibility of extension.

Hourly and Student Benefit Eligibility Rules At-a-Glance:
There are three (3) types of employee benefits temporary hourly (and some student) employees may qualify for:- The 480 Hour Rule - Health Insurance
- Tracked in rolling six (6) consecutive month blocks of time
- Current department charge is $939 per month even if the employee waives medical coverage
- This rate usually changes July 1st each year; usually increasing annually
- Students are not tracked for this rule
- The 70 Hour Rule - Retirement plan participation in a Department of Retirement Systems (DRS) Plan:
- Tracked for an academic year (September through August)
- Current department charge is a dollar amount equal to 12.86% of the employee's gross earnings
- This rate changes periodically throughout the year as determined by DRS. Rate changes can be found on the document titled "Estimated Employer Paid Benefit Cost Analysis" posted on the Document Center of our Intranet.
- Students are tracked for this rule
- The 350 Hour Role - WFSE Union Membership
- Tracked from anniversary date to anniversary date
- There is not a departmental charge incurred
- Students are not tracked for this rule
Tips:- No temporary employee should work more than a total of 16 hours per week. Since the employee may be working in multiple departments, the supervisor will need to make sure they are coordinating with the other departments to be sure the employee does not exceed 16 hours each week. This ensures the employee will not hit the 70 or 480 Hour Rules.
- Please make a habit of checking the weekly totals on each TLR timecard the supervisor approves to ensure no week exceeds 16 hours. A supervisor will not be able to see timecards for other departments, so please be sure to work with other supervisors to track hours in other areas.
- Working 17 hours per week does not ensure the employee will remain under 70 hours per month as some months have a longer second half than others.
- The 350 Hour Rule is unavoidable. Please be aware hourly employees will eventually become eligible for WFSE Union Membership.
- The 480 Hour Rule - Health Insurance
