Position Summary:
- Position Summary
This position provides instruction in the Diesel & Heavy Duty Equipment Technology Program. The instructor may teach during the day or evening depending on the instructional needs of SSC. The teaching requirement is for 5 hours of contact each day with additional time for student advising, industry contacts, division meetings, and working with the technical advisory committee. It is a full-time tenure track position.
Candidates should be willing to teach in a variety of formats such as in-class, hybrid, online and varied class times including days and evenings according to program needs.

This position is governed by a collective bargaining agreement with representation by AFT-Seattle and is subject to union shop provisions.- Essential Functions
- Teach curriculum for Heavy Duty Diesel certificate and degree programs.
- Provide assistance and advice to students regarding their success and eventual employment.
- Participate in department planning and operation.
- Work with other faculty and students to maintain a clean and safe working environment.
- Complete all necessary college paperwork, e.g. registration forms, grade reports, safety reports, etc. in a timely fashion.
- Be familiar with current industry practices and technologies.
- Complete and maintain an in-service technology education program.
- Achieve and maintain a Seattle College District Vocational Technical Instructor's Certificate.
- Work effectively with students in a multi-cultural, multi-ethnic environment and understand the goals and objectives of comprehensive college and vocational-technical education.
- Develop and grow effective relationships with industry representatives.
- Achieve and maintain NATEF program and State certifications which includes being ASE Master Certified in Diesel Heavy Equipment Repair.
- Required Education, Experience & Abilities
- Minimum of five years trade experience in the field of diesel & heavy equipment repair.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- ASE Master Certification required by end of first year of employment.
- Preferred Qualifications
- Degree in Diesel Heavy Equipment Repair Technology and ASE Master Certification desired.
- Vocational instructional experience.
- Experience with assessment of student learning and use of instructional technology.
- Understanding of effective marketing, student recruitment and retention.
