Job Summary:
Adjunct faculty are hired to fulfill responsibilities which will be specified in their letter of appointment.
Unless otherwise specified in the adjunct faculty member's letter of appointment, workload consists solely of instruction.
All faculty are expected to engage in effective teaching and assessment of student learning.
Benefits: Faculty eligibility rules are complex and depend on the nature of your appointment. Faculty with a quarter-to-quarter or semester-to-semester appointment who are in an EWU paid appointment of at least 50 percent or more are eligible for PEBB insurance on the first day of the month following the start of their second consecutive academic term. See WAC 182-12-114 section (3)(a)(ii) for more details.
Required Qualifications:
Demonstrated expertise is required for teaching in the discipline associated with appointment as an adjunct faculty member; expertise is normally demonstrated by one or more of the following:
- Master's degree in nursing or Bachelor's degree in nursing with Master's degree in a health or education related field
- Unencumbered Washington Registered Nurse license, or eligible for licensure
- Current healthcare provider CPR certification
- Excellent interpersonal communication skills
- Demonstrated ability to apply a culturally responsive and flexible approach that is supportive to the diverse needs, including universal access, of our students, faculty, staff, and the public.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Five or more years recent clinical experience
- Master's level course work in nursing education
- One or more years of prior experience teaching in a clinical, laboratory, or simulated learning environment
- Experience working with Canvas or another learning management system

Responsibility / Duty: Teaching workload for individuals appointed to an adjunct faculty position will be specified in their individual letter of appointment.
Teaching Responsibilities:
- Teach nursing courses consistent with expertise and program/departmental instructional needs
- Engage in effective teaching and assessment of student learning outcomes
- Advise students who are declared majors on department, college and university requirements and career opportunities
- Participate in ongoing teaching and learning development activities
- Participate in continuing education to maintain clinical competence in area of expertise
- Maintain knowledge of the nursing curriculum, student policies, and clinical requirements
Teaching includes the following additional related responsibilities as defined in the faculty CBA:
- Meet all scheduled classes
- Plan, organize and inform students of the course content, texts, readings, assignments, attendance regulations and methods of evaluation including grading scales
- Schedule and attend office hours
- Turn in grades according to established deadlines
Additionally, all faculty are expected to engage in effective teaching and assessment of student learning.

Conditions of Employment:
Appointment is as specified in the letter of appointment. Appointment as an adjunct faculty member does not confer any right to subsequent appointment for additional quarters or semesters.
To be considered eligible for appointment into the position, applicants must be available and able to start in the position no later than the date specified in the letter of appointment.
This position, during the course of university employment will be involved in the receipt of, or accountability for, university funds or other items of value, as well as the unsupervised access with the developmentally disabled, vulnerable adults or children under the age of 16. The offer of employment is contingent upon successful completion and passing of a background check prior to beginning employment.
All new employees must comply with EWU immunization Policy 602-02 and provide proof of immunity or vaccination to MMR before beginning work at EWU. Waivers for the immunization requirements are available for medical or sincerely held religious beliefs.

Salary Information: Semester Adjunct Faculty will be compensated at the rate of one thousand one hundred sixty-three dollars ($1163) per credit.
