Position Details:
One full-time position, 40hours per week, 12 months per year on the Oceanside Campus. The normal work schedule will be 8:00am - 5:00 pm. The person selected for this position will be subject to assignment to any district facility during any hours of operation.

This position is categorical and grant funded, and scheduled to end on 12/30/2026.

The first-level interviews with the screening and interview committee will be conducted via Zoom. The second-level interviews may be in-person or via Zoom.

REMOTE WORK:
MiraCosta College believes that flexible work enables employees to achieve a more successful balance between work responsibilities and family life. The District offers the opportunity to telework (remote work) for certain positions, depending on the operational needs of the District and the provisions of the telework policy. Probationary and temporary employees are not eligible to telework unless approved by the appropriate vice president. No employee is guaranteed the right to telework. No employee shall be authorized to telework 100% of the time; regular, on-campus presence is expected for all District employees on a weekly basis.

RESIDENCY REQUIREMENT:
MiraCosta College Board Policy 7800: Employee Residency requires all classified staff, administrators, and temporary/hourly short-term employees to maintain and permanently reside in a principal place of residence in the state of California that is within two-hundred (200) road miles from the employees regularly assigned district worksite. The purpose of the policy is to promote efficiency and continuity throughout all campus administrative functions, provide students with high quality assistance and accessibility to all academic and campus services, ensure that students receive an engaging education, and respond to emerging student needs.

The District may consider an individual request to temporarily reside outside of the State of California or outside the 200-mile limit on a case-by-case basis, not to exceed twelve consecutive months.



Salary Range: 30
Compensation:
Starting at (Range 30, Step 1) $91,579 with annual salary step increases up to step 5.

Employees must make arrangements for the direct deposit of paychecks into the financial institution of their choice, via electronic fund transfer.


Benefits:
Short-term, temporary employees may be eligible for Healthy Families Sick Leave, and enrollment in a retirement system.

The screening and interview committee will review application materials for up to three to four weeks following the closing/first screening date. Offer of employment to the person selected for this position is contingent upon 1) successful completion of a pre-placement physical exam at district expense; 2) submission of a current tuberculosis test clearance; 3) proof of eligibility to work in the United States; 4) fingerprint clearance; and 5) approval by the Board of Trustees.


Basic Function:
Under direction, perform instructional design work; work closely with faculty and instructional staff to review and enhance course design that incorporates appropriate instructional delivery methods and learning technology solutions; and perform other duties as assigned.


Distinguishing Characteristics:


Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

1. Conduct needs assessment, development, design, and evaluation of instructional tools and materials in collaboration with faculty, departments, and other campus leaders.

2. Provide instructional design training, guidance, assistance, and technical support to faculty with an emphasis on online course development and technology integration. Work with faculty to review online courses and provide actionable feedback to enhance student success.

3. Design and conduct faculty development workshops, independently and in collaboration with others, in-person and online, on instructional design and various instructional technologies.

4. Develop training and resources for equity-minded course design; advise individual faculty, departments, and other small groups on equity-minded online and technology-enhanced teaching.

5. Help faculty to investigate, adopt, and redesign courses around Open Educational Resources (OER) and other Zero Textbook Cost materials, independently and in collaboration with others.

6. Collaborate with student support leaders and staff to enhance design and delivery of online support services. Provide resources and guidance to enable faculty to effectively integrate support services within courses.

7. Maintain current knowledge of instructional design and effective teaching strategies with an emphasis on multimedia, interactive and online technologies for synchronous and asynchronous instruction, and equity-minded pedagogical practices.

8. Gather, analyze, and present data that illustrate course design and instructional practices, inform training and support priorities and enhancements, and provide insights to support student success.

9. Provide training, guidance, assistance, and technical support to faculty in the remediation of materials and courses to ensure accessibility compliance, independently and in collaboration with others.

1. Attends various meetings and participate on committees as required.

2. Engage in ongoing professional development and involvement in professional organizations.

3. Perform related duties as assigned.


Knowledge Of:
  • Knowledge of course design processes and standards, instructional techniques, and appropriate evaluation methods for face-to-face, hybrid and online courses.

  • Knowledge of applicable federal, state and local laws, rules and regulations [including OSHA rules and regulations if applicable].

  • Knowledge of applicable sections of the state education code, Title 5, federal distance education regulations, accessibility guidelines, and copyright laws.


Ability To:
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively incorporate instructional design methodologies and emerging technologies in instructional settings.

  • Proficiency in learning management systems and related software and applications. Ability to quickly acquire proficiency with new and emerging technologies.

  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.

  • Ability to effectively coach faculty in maintaining compliance with applicable policies and regulations, and in adopting effective practices for technology-enhanced course design and teaching.

  • Ability to collaborate with others to design, develop, and deliver effective faculty support programs, workshops, and resources.

  • Ability to prioritize multiple projects and effectively complete work both independently and collaboratively.


Education & Experience:
To be eligible for this position, you must meet and provide evidence of the following minimum qualifications:

A bachelors degree in educational technology, instructional technology and design or a related field and at least three years of relevant experience working in an educational setting in instructional design and development.

NOTE: For work experience, one "year" is defined as equivalent to 40 hours per week for 12 months, or at least 2,080 hours.

A valid California drivers license and the ability to maintain insurability under the districts vehicle insurance program.

Primarily business office environment; subject to frequent public contact and interruption; intermittent exposure to individuals acting in a disagreeable fashion; may work at any district location or authorized facility with occasional evenings and/or weekends on an as-needed basis.
