Job Summary
The Writing Lab Coordinator manages the day-to-day operations of the Writing Lab housed in the Center for Academic Achievement. As part of the learning center, the Writing Lab Coordinator recruits, trains, and supervises a team of peer writing consultants, collaborates with faculty and staff across departments/offices on the development of the CAA's writing services, and provides guidance and on writing-focused best practices for the Writing Lab's peer consultants. The Writing Lab Coordinator also facilitates workshops and presentations to increase student's knowledge of effective writing skills.

Job Description
Typical duties may include but are not limited to:
- Manages the day-to-day operations of the Writing Lab.
- Develops and implements programs to enhance and promote the importance of writing in students' academic success.
- Works collaboratively with administrators in the development, implementation, documentation, and enforcement of writing lab policies and procedures.
- Creates and implements evaluations, assessment, and strategic goals to assess and report effectiveness of the Writing Lab to supervisor and appropriate stakeholders.
- Identifies service improvement opportunities that will better enable the Writing Lab to achieve its goals and objectives.
- Develops budget recommendations and assists with developing budget requests.
- Monitors and complies with all fiscal expenditures and guidelines in accordance with university policies and procedures.
- Plans and coordinates events, seminars, presentations, and workshops that support the Writing Lab's strategic goals.
- Recruits, hires, trains, supervises, and evaluates clerical staff, OPS, and part-time student employees. Maintains work schedules, timesheets, and payroll action forms.
Other Duties:
- May serve as a team leader and oversee the work of lower-level personnel and/or student employees in assigned area.
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
Additional Job Description
Required Qualifications:
- This position requires either six years of directly related full-time experience or, as an alternative, a Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in an appropriate area of specialization and two years of full-time experience directly related to the job functions.
- Experience operating a personal computer and proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook).
- Any appropriate combination of relevant education, experience, and/or certifications may be considered.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master's Degree from an accredited institution in English, Composition/Rhetoric, Education, Higher Education, Advising, or closely related field.
- Experience in a college/university writing center, college/university learning center, English adjunct or faculty.
- Experience in designing academic support programs, addressing special characteristics, interests, and backgrounds.
- Experience designing and implementing academic writing support programs for college students.
- Experience working with undergraduate students.
- Experience collecting and researching data for assessment.
- Experience with various citation styles.
- Experience with Banner.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Knowledge of policies, procedures, and regulations pertaining to the position.
- Knowledge of and ability to adhere to FERPA requirements.
- Skill in organizing resources and establishing priorities.
- Skill in using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems.
- Knowledge of program planning, development, implementation, and leadership skills.
- Knowledge and understanding of student learning outcomes, and skill in designing and implementing valid tools to assess those outcomes.
- Knowledge of higher education in the areas of academic assistance or similar administrative, teaching, or legal practice experience.
- Knowledge of learning theories and best practices in effective pedagogy, formative and summative assessment and educational learning theory.
- Knowledge and proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access, Outlook) applications.
- Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
- Skills in public speaking and delivering presentations to individuals and groups.
- Skills in completing assignments accurately and with attention to detail.
- Strong organizational skills and an ability to prioritize and complete simultaneous projects within deadlines.
- Ability to work successfully as both a member of a team and independently with minimal supervision.
- Ability to take initiative to plan, organize, coordinate and perform work in various situations when numerous and diverse demands are involved.
- Ability to think critically and creatively, have a high standard of integrity, and be motivated to incorporate best practices into the organizational structure.
- Ability to operate personal computers with proficiency and learn new applications and systems.
- Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to present effectively to small and large groups.
