ABOUT THE POSITION
The Interim Dean, Enrollment Services is directly responsible to the Vice President of Student Support Services for providing leadership, direction, planning, coordination, general supervision and evaluation of the programs/departments and services within Enrollment Services, including Admissions and Records, College Articulation, Financial Aid, International Students, Scholarships and Veterans Services. This position may also supervise other academic or student service areas as assigned. The assignment includes, but is not limited to, enrollment management and student matriculation responsibilities; coordination of educational/preventative programs, and other duties related to planning, development, implementation and coordination of the programs and services within the area.

Duties
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide leadership for the direction, planning and administration of the area's student support services.
- Program leadership for the development of new programs and services and the development of strategies and activities that encourage and foster innovation in order to increase the number of students who are prepared to successfully complete academic goals in a timely manner.
- Provide leadership in the development and implementation of the College Student Success Plan, including the expansion of Promise Pathways and the Long Beach College Promise.
- Prepare or review documents and assure that materials meet requirements of the Curriculum Committee; provide necessary information for schedules, catalog information, and program publicity.
- Assist in articulation of the instructional programs with K-12 and institutions of higher education, specifically to promote transfer and seamless programs of study.
- Understand and appreciate the mission of community colleges and be able to relate it to all constituencies.
- Develop budgets and manage financial resources consistent with the college policy and sound management principles.
- In accordance with the college's enrollment management plan, provide leadership and coordination for the development of operational action plans and their implementation.
- Recommend staff personnel; assist in the recruitment, selection, and evaluation of personnel as appropriate; recommend the hire, transfer, suspension, lay-off, promotion, assignment, discipline, training, professional development, direction and performance evaluation of assigned staff.
- Assist in the review and evaluation of student support services within the area.
- Assist in providing orientation and professional development for personnel within the area.
- Assist in identifying resources for development through grants and special projects; coordinate and assist in preparation of project applications for special funding to support the area's programs and services.
- Develop and prepare recommendations and reports as necessary; coordinate and supervise preparation of plans, studies and reports applicable to the area as required.
- Train, supervise, evaluate, and direct the work of assigned academic and classified staff within assigned areas.
- Advocate and promote quality support services and student success to meet the educational needs of students in a diverse community college environment.
- Facilitate and enhance governance processes/relationship(s); understand and support the role of faculty, staff, and students in participatory governance.
- Understand and promote the role and use of technology in student services and instructional environments.
- Administer collective bargaining agreements, employment and promotion selection procedures; and compliance with District policies, rules and regulations regarding personnel.
This position reports to the Vice President, Student Support Services and supervises and evaluates assigned staff.
PERSONNEL
Responsible for or effectively recommending the hire, transfer, suspension, lay-off, promotion, assignment, discipline, training, professional development, assignment, direction and evaluation of work, and adjustment of grievances of all assigned staff; administering collective bargaining agreements, employment and promotion selection procedures, and compliance with District policies, rules and regulations regarding personnel; evaluation of the performance of assigned staff, providing direction and assistance wherever a need for improvement is identified
Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Master's degree from an accredited institution, or possession of a valid California Community College Supervisory Credential, AND
- One year of formal training, internship, or leadership experience reasonably related to the administrative assignment AND
- Evidence of a sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Possession of an earned doctorate from a regionally accredited university.
- Progressive experience administering educational programs and services, including experience in a community college or university environment.
- Recent leadership experience as a dean, program director, or coordinator within or associated with admissions, student records, articulation, financial aid, or veterans services.
- Recent training and experience working with Title IX complaints, including investigations, coordination, and prevention/educational activities.
- Commitment to participatory governance and ability to build consensus, resolve difficult issues, and foster a team environment.
- Effective oral and written communication skills.
- Knowledge of computers and computer applications that support management systems and business office functions.
- Demonstrated ability to problem solve and make timely, fair, and equitable decisions.
- Demonstrated record of fiscal responsibility and accountability, utilizing enrollment management in student services and/or instructional schedule planning.
- Demonstrated advocacy for students and students' needs.
- Demonstrated commitment to academic quality and standards.
- Ability to work effectively with community groups, educational entities, business, industry, government and legislative bodies to develop partnerships and coalitions which result in better service to the community and students.

- Principles, theories and practices of administration specifically related to student services and instruction available at institutions of higher education

- District organization, operations and objectives
- Budget administration, including grant funded programs
- Needs, interests and concerns of various groups of community college students
- Oral and written communication skills
- Interpersonal skills including tact, patience and diplomacy
ABILITY TO
- Develop and implement a broad variety of student services and programs at the community college level
- Employ effective enrollment management strategies in an open-access institution
- Facilitate highly sensitive and detailed investigations and procedures related to sexual misconduct
- Provide leadership and direction to faculty and classified staff

- Plan, organize, direct, administer, review and evaluate student services programs, services and activities as they relate to student persistence, successful academic progress, and program completion
- Maintain current knowledge of supportive programs and services for various constituencies within the college community
- Assure compliance with local, State and federal laws related to the provision of instruction and student services on a community college campus
- Communicate effectively both orally and in writing
- Establish and maintain effective and cooperative working relationships
- Effectively delegate authority and responsibility to subordinate
- Relate effectively to people of varied academic, cultural and socio-economic background with tact, diplomacy and courtesy
