Job Summary
Facilities Management at CU Boulder encourages applications for a Recycling Facility Manager and Recycling Collections Driver! This position oversees the daily operations of the recycling sorting facility by managing the work flow, sorting processes, training students, handling tours and special event recycling. Special Event duties and assistance will be assigned by the manager as needed. The position will perform preventative maintenance and coordinate repairs on equipment, make repairs on recycling containers, and manage inventory for recycling equipment (bins, bags, special event containers, etc.). The role may collect recycling from campus loading docks and deliver to waste transfer station or processing facility using a rear-load collection truck rated for up to 26,000 lbs or a delivery van.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be
Management of Recycling Processing Facility
- Provide work flow management and expertise to the on-campus sorting facility. There are two priorities that must be met daily: ensuring that there are enough empty containers for recycling crews, and quality assurance of the sorted recycling material. Keep facility in good working condition by providing a safe, clean working environment for staff. This includes making sure PPE supplies are stocked and taking steps to mitigate slip and fall hazards. Repair equipment such as: polycarts, tipcarts, mailcarts, cleaning equipment. Perform preventative maintenance on all equipment within facility. Work closely with 3rd party vendors for routine maintenance on recycling equipment. Troubleshoot malfunctioning equipment. Provide scheduled facility tours throughout the academic year. Assist with organization and execution of special projects including: time motion studies of sort process, test out new sorting methodologies based on market value of materials, and conduct waste composition studies focused on particular areas of campus (food service, classrooms, administrative), train and evaluate student sorting employees. Assist with snow and ice removal around facility dock area and entrances
Recycling Collections
- Operating two-axel rear-load recycling collection vehicles, collect compostable and recyclable materials across campus. Using vehicle hydraulic lifting mechanisms, empty collections carts and dumpsters from over 60 campus locations. Clean, replace or repair polycarts and dumpsters as needed and ensure each collection vessel is accurately labeled by material type. Perform major cleaning and repairing of containers during student breaks.
Green Laboratories Collection
- Operating a two-axel box truck, collect recycled laboratories from building loading docks and securely place in back of truck for safe transport.
Paperwork, Scheduling, & Other Duties
- When closing work orders, include closing comments and ensure repair work orders are created. As an essential services employee, the position is responsible to respond to other duties as assigned on an "as needed" basis. This position may be assigned work at the Equipment Operator II up to 15% of the time as a part of the positions on the job training.

- This in-person positions anticipated working hours are Monday - Friday from 8am - 4:30 pm.

What We Can Offer
- The annual salary rate for this position is $49,848.
- If you have prior state-classified experience in the same class series as this position, your pay may be set at a higher amount per the state Step Pay Program implemented on July 1, 2024.

What We Require
- Minimum of three years relevant work experience OR a combination of related education and/or relevant experience in an occupation related to the work assigned equal to three (3) years.
- Must be a Colorado resident to apply.
- Must have a valid Colorado driver's license. A CMV license will be required after 60 days of start date.
