Job Description Summary
Job Description
Nursing Responsibilities:
- Triage all inpatient and outpatients
- Provide support to inpatient treatments and be a liaison between the services
- Actively participate in cardiology transfers as directed by clinicians
- Submit blood samples and prescription request to the lab/ pharmacy
- Run diagnostic tests such as BNP/troponin on the cardio VCheck unit
- Participate in clinic appointments and learn the common client discussions and discharge instructions
- Client communication and education, prescription refills and email correspondence.
- Perform sedation on cardiology patients when necessary.
- Perform 6 and 12-lead ECGs and provide basic interpretation
- Placement and removal of 48hr ambulatory ECG (Holter) monitoring equipment on patients
- Draft and populate Holter reports for individual clinicians
- Assist during cardiac catheterization procedures including operation of the fluoroscopy unit, angiocontrast power injector, cardiac catheter supply, device supply, pacemaker programmer, physiologic pressure and ECG monitor, thermodilution computer, and other cardiology-specific procedures
- Procedure logs: keep running tab of catheter material used with time stamp and generate electronic doc for the primary clinician
- Conduct outpatient nurse appointments
- Assist/perform pericardiocentesis, thoracocentesis, and abdominocentesis as directed by cardiologist.
- Student teaching-EKG, Doppler, venipuncture
- Charge Capture
Coordinator Duties:
- Collaborate with section chief on a more efficient scheduling system for the service appointments and surgeries
- Obtain medical records from RDVM and upload to HIS no later than the day before appointment
- Coordinate and control patient flow, timing of diagnostic procedures, integration of in-house consults with outpatient duties.
- Enter RIS orders for echo or radiographs and insuring charge capture
- Serve as the initial contact person for other services requesting cardiology consultation.
- Manage Holter data- upload and submit raw, download and file reports and enter results in Holter report
- Specialty Inventory-special orders
- Oversee and train floater nurses and Harcum students while on cardiology rotation.
- General equipment maintenance and liaison for service contracts
- Doppler
- Pulse Ox
- Echo machines (Phillips& Vivid I, TEE probe)
- ECG
- Pacemaker Interrogators
- Holter units
- power injector
Qualifications:
- CVT with a minimum 5 years' experience in veterinary medicine
- Veterinary Technician C: CVT and 3-5 years of experience
Veterinary Technician D: CVT and 5-8 years of experience
Veterinary Technician E: CVT and 8 + years of experience - Prior veterinary cardiology experience preferred
- Strong medical knowledge base
- Requires strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Excellent organizational skills are essential
- Ability to multi-task while paying close attention to detail
- Must be able to work independently.
Hours:
7a-5p (4 days) Tuesday to Friday
