Job Summary:

The Department of Biomedical Informatics at the University of Colorado School of Medicine invites applications for a full-time Project Manager to oversee the coordination, administration, and engagement of internal-facing aspects of multiple large-scale NIH-funded programs.

This position will be expected to support a diverse portfolio of research projects undertaken by faculty in DBMI, many of which involve consortia of investigators from multiple institutions. The duties of the Project Manager include managing timelines and deliverables, facilitating project planning and strategy sessions, document development and management, collaboration with software developers to achieve milestones, and effective communication across national and local project teams.

This position will work on one or more ongoing projects, including the Bridge to Artificial Intelligence (Bridge2AI) Consortium, the Common Fund Data Ecosystem's Integration and Coordination Center (CFDE-ICC), and other efforts. Bridge2AI aims to propel biomedical and behavioral research forward by setting the stage for widespread adoption of artificial intelligence (AI) that tackles complex biomedical challenges beyond human intuition. The CFDE-ICC aims to advance the coordination, sustainability, and impact of the NIH's CFDE. DBMI faculty lead the Evaluation Core for the CFDE-ICC. This core helps common fund centers and projects develop data sustainability plans and ensure continuous improvement through an annual evaluation program. The Project Manager will interface with other ICC components and coordinate the annual evaluation program. This role is to assist with designing processes for managing groups, managing information, coordination of meetings, and reporting.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Manage geographically distributed and interdisciplinary projects, create project plans, manage deliverables, including timelines, risks and coordination of cross-functional tasks using product and project management software, such as GitHub, GSuite (Google Workspace), Jira, Notion, etc.
  • Identify and organize appropriate and effective meetings for various activities. Manage the meetings to make progress on projects. Assist with agendas, facilitate meetings, capture action items and decisions and distribute information to the attendees.
  • Effectively communicate goals and status of work, including all requirements to internal and external project team, stakeholders, and project funding officers.
  • Work with project managers of other teams to drive multi-institutional projects.
  • Work collaboratively to increase the productivity and accountability of a team that is developing transformational software for bioinformatics.
  • Assist with event planning (online and in-person).

Work Location:

Hybrid - This position offers a hybrid work arrangement, with the flexibility to work remotely under specific conditions. Periodic travel to campus will be required, as needed to meet project commitments and attend occasional team meetings.

Senior Level:
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution.
  • Two (2) years of professional level project management experience (e.g., project and issue tracking, risk and release management, etc.) working collaboratively with internal and external cross-functional teams and external-facing customers and partners.
  • Two (2) years of experience with virtual collaboration tools, including conferencing tools (e.g., Zoom, Microsoft Teams, etc.), cloud storage services (e.g., OneDrive (Microsoft), Google Drive, etc.), communication tools (e.g., Slack, Skype, etc.) and project management tools (e.g., Monday[dot]com, GitHub, JIRA, etc.).

Principal Level:
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution.
  • Three (3) years of professional level project management experience (e.g., project and issue tracking, risk and release management, etc.) working collaboratively with internal and external cross-functional teams and external-facing customers and partners.
  • Three (3) years of experience with virtual collaboration tools, including conferencing tools (e.g., Zoom, Microsoft Teams, etc.), cloud storage services (e.g., OneDrive (Microsoft), Google Drive, etc.), communication tools (e.g., Slack, Skype, etc.) and project management tools (e.g., Monday[dot]com, GitHub, JIRA, etc.).
    • A combination of education and related technical/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for the bachelor's degree on a year for year basis. A master's degree in a directly related field from an accredited institution may be substituted for up to two (2) years of experience.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master's degree from an accredited institution.
  • Four (4) or more years of project management experience or training in a technical, research or scientific field (e.g., project and issue tracking, risk and release management, etc.) working collaboratively with internal and external cross-functional teams and external-facing customers and partners.
  • Four (4) or more years of experience with virtual collaboration tools, including conferencing tools (e.g., Zoom, Microsoft Teams, etc.), cloud storage services (e.g., OneDrive (Microsoft), Google Drive, etc.), communication tools (e.g., Slack, Skype, etc.) and project management tools (e.g., Monday[dot]com, GitHub, JIRA, etc.).
  • One (1) or more years of experience developing software in Python, Java, JavaScript, R, or another language used in scientific computing.
  • One (1) or more years of experience reporting complex project summaries to high-level executives or key external stakeholders.
  • Experience building and maintaining complex spreadsheets, including pivot tables and other complex concepts.
  • Project management certification.
  • Professional experience in a technical, research, or scientific field.
  • Experience managing a large-scale team.

The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established as:

Senior Level: $59,840 - $72,570

Principal Level: $68,815 - $83,456

The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. This position may be eligible for overtime compensation, depending on the level.
