Dean of Behavioral Science, Public Service and Education Division

The role of the Academic Dean of Behavioral Science, Public Service and Education is to serve as the educational leader and manager for the disciplines housed within the Division. The Dean will facilitate the vision and strategic direction of the division to deliver curriculum and programming designed to study human behavior, service leadership, and foundation disciplines focused on education, social justice, and civic engagement. The Dean works collaboratively with the faculty to support the design, development, implementation, and assessment of all courses, programs, co-curricular engagement activities, and external partnerships/opportunities associated with the disciplines housed within the Division. The Behavioral Science, Public Service and Education division houses disciplines related (but not limited to) the fields of Education, Psychology, Criminal Justice, Human Services, Fire Science Technology, Social Justice, Community Organizing, and Public Health.

Responsibilities and Duties: Duties of the Academic Dean of Behavioral Science, Public Service and Education, include, but are not limited to:

CURRICULUM AND STRATEGIC INITIATIVE DEVELOPMENT
  • Develop, in collaboration with Academic Affairs and Division faculty and staff, a vision and strategic direction for the Division consistent with the goals and strategies of the College's strategic plan.
  • Stay current on related discipline and high impact teaching practices to facilitate the integration of these practices and competencies into the curriculum.
  • Support the faculty to effectively and efficiently meet the curricular needs and divisional priorities at the college, region, and state level.
  • Work with associate deans, program directors and department chairs to schedule and ensure equitable delivery of all instructional sessions regardless of modality, location, time of offering, or demographics of intended students (including early college and correctional education).
  • Ensure all courses, programs, co-curricular engagement activities, and external partnerships/opportunities associated with Behavioral Science, Public Service and Education, are consistent with NECHE, DHE, and the College's academic standards.
  • Stay current on technology needs within the division and advocate with IT for pedagogically appropriate and institutionally effective systems and applications as needed.
  • Develop community relationships and networking opportunities connected with the goals of the Division to facilitate partnerships, advisory board participation, and needs assessment for the community.
  • Facilitate, in collaboration with the College's senior leadership, appropriate advisory boards for programs offered within the Division.

COLLEGE AND DIVISION ADMINISTRATION
  • Recruit, orient, supervise, and evaluate all Division full-time and part-time professional staff and student workers.
  • Serve as the hiring manager for all Division search committees.
  • Serve as the Cost Center Manager for the Division's budgets as supported by the Academic Affairs Resource Manager and Executive Director for Grants.
  • Facilitate effective communication within departments, the Division, across Academic Affairs, and throughout Massasoit on issues related to the Division.
  • Maintain current personnel lists, contact information (including email), and Division organizational chart, annually shared with the office of the VPAA.
  • Adhere to all administrative guidelines and deadlines of the Collective Bargaining Agreements for full-time and part-time faculty and staff.
  • Calculate faculty teaching workloads and adjust where necessary consistent with the MCCC and DCE contracts.
  • Recommend promotions, tenure, reappointment/non-reappointment, sabbatical leaves, hiring, and personnel action as specified in the Collective Bargaining Agreements.
  • Recruit, orient, supervise, and evaluate all full-time and adjunct faculty associated with the Division.

STUDENTS, ASSESSMENT and ACCREDITATION
  • Ensure program and course descriptions and requirements are clearly communicated to students, faculty advisors, and professional advising team working collaboratively with these groups to determine potential barriers to success.
  • Facilitate the development of student handbooks for specific programs designed to adhere to Massasoit Student Services standards and highlight program requirements, expectations, opportunities, and career paths, as part of a comprehensive student orientation.
  • Facilitate dispute resolution between students, faculty, and staff associated with the Division following College policies and practices, including, but not limited to, grievances, disciplinary issues, grading appeals, course waivers, student appeals, and room changes, as needed.
  • Oversee adherence to the academic program review cycle.
  • Maintain and advocate for participation with accreditation bodies that are best representative of the standards for the field and ensure the best possible placement for graduates (e.g. NYEAC, FESHE)
  • Effectively communicate this assessment process to the Division and other stakeholders, emphasizing the use of annual student learning outcomes assessment and institutional research data consistent with the goals of the Division, for continuous improvement.
  • Analyze and use data effectively to inform course and program offerings and justify curricular and resource allocation recommendations.
  • Promote a culture of professional growth and development.

CROSS-DIVISION AND EXTERNAL INITIATIVES
  • Ensure effective program recruiting and retention through collaboration with Admissions/Enrollment Management, Advising, Marketing & Communication, Grants, and Institutional Advancement
  • Collaborate with the Transfer Services team to establish transfer agreements with baccalaureate schools and in compliance with Mass Transfer standards.
  • Collaborate with the Early College Access department to establish and support relationships with local high schools and deliver curriculum and co-curricular opportunities as needed to meet the College's strategic goals.
  • Collaborate with CECE (Continuing Education and Community Engagement) and WDSP (Workforce Development and Strategic Partnerships) departments to establish and support relationships with the community and deliver curriculum and co-curricular opportunities as needed to develop stackable credentials and meet the College's strategic goals.
  • Serve on appropriate college-wide and external professional committees of task forces, as needed.
  • Seek and/or collaborate with the Grants Department team to propose and strengthen appropriate grant application development, implementation, and reporting.
  • Represent the college in interactions with community agencies, businesses and other community groups, as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements:
  • Master's degree in a discipline related to the division, higher education or a related field. Terminal degree preferred.
  • Minimum 3-5 years teaching at the college level; community college preferred.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of administrative experience, preferably in an academic leadership role; community college preferred.
  • Experience as a faculty member in a discipline or subject area taught within the Division.
  • Understanding of the Massasoit community, college history, mission, student demographics and goals.


Additional Information:
Position Status: Full-time benefited Non-Unit Professional

Hours: 37.5 hours per week Monday - Friday

Salary: $118,462 - $154,003 is commensurate with experience and education.

Worksite: Assignments will include all Massasoit sites and additional locations as necessary.
