DESCRIPTION
Mendocino-Lake Community College District is currently accepting applications for a Student Retention Specialist to work in our Hispanic Serving Institute Program department.
There are two Student Retention Specialist positions available to work with our Hispanic Serving Institute Program. One Student Retention Specialist position will be based at our Lake Center campus in Lakeport, CA. Ideally, we would like the other Student Retention Specialist to be stationed at our Coast Center in Fort Bragg, CA. However, we are flexible and open to having this position located in Ukiah, with the expectation of weekly travel to Fort Bragg, CA.
Under the general direction of appropriate supervisor, supports the implementation of student retention efforts in the assigned area/program, including the delivery of core success and support services and follow-up services; performs support duties requiring expertise in data gathering and reporting, office management, customer relations, or other specialized services; coordinates with faculty, staff, and administrators in programs related to student retention. The Student Retention Specialist will coordinate and assist with activities and events in alignment with Mendocino College's Guided Pathways framework, Education Master Plan, and Student Equity Plan.

This position is currently funded through September 2028, with the potential to be expanded and extended should additional grant funding be secured.

SALARY AND BENEFITS
Salary Range (26): The starting monthly salary range is $4,602 - $4,832. There are five annual step movements; initial placement will be at step 1, unless approved by the Superintendent/President. Please see the current salary schedule here: MLCCD - Salary Schedule
Benefits: With NO monthly premium contribution from the employee, we offer a comprehensive benefits package that includes family medical, dental, vision, EAP benefits and employee life insurance. Additional voluntary life insurance is available for employee purchase. Benefits are effective the first of the month following hire date.
Holidays and Paid Time Off: The successful candidate will earn twelve (12) days of vacation and twelve (12) days of sick leave per year. Vacation leave increases with the length of service. There are twenty (20) paid holidays annually.
Retirement: This position is eligible for CalPERS Retirement.
REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES
The successful candidate will support student and institutional success by executing the following duties:
- Assists with in-reach and retention of students including implementing strategies to enhance student completion and success, particularly focused on pathways;
- Provide encouragement and support to students who are undecided about a major by providing information regarding specific majors;
- Proactively meets with students to monitor their progress;
- Promotes an anti-racist and culturally responsive student support environment;
- Tracks student involvement in on-campus support resources (including academic counseling and development of student educational plans, as well as support services relating to financial aid, scholarships, career exploration, and transfer);
- Involved in the early alert system to connect with students who are under-performing in specific coursework or may need additional support;
- Collaborates with multiple support services to link students to available resources;
- Assists in planning an academic support structure to include workshops, study groups, tutoring, program activities, and other support services to enhance student retention and success;
- Performs support services for student success and support programs; may support multiple areas/departments; prepares reports and other documents;
- Supports the implementation of matriculation initiatives (orientation, follow-up support, outreach, etc.) in cooperation with multiple District departments;
- Maintains statistical records and confidential files for department(s) or area(s);
- Works with students, staff, faculty, and the public to implement goals and objectives of assigned areas/programs; works with supervisor to resolve issues and recommends solutions related to student success;
- Assists with the collection and analysis of data for program review and assessment of student learning and service area outcomes. This includes assisting in monitoring student follow-up and academic progress related to student success goals; identify and notify students of progress;
- May participate in the training and work direction of student and short-term, non continuing (STNC) employees; provides technical direction and guidance.
- Interprets and implements District policies and procedures related to student equity, success and support programs;
- May present information and participate in community outreach activities;
- May perform student support services at multiple district locations and partner agencies;
- Maintains current resources and equipment for student use;
- Prepares, maintains and distributes a variety of reports, forms, applications, lists, instructional materials, requisitions, schedules, fliers, calendars, manuals, handbooks, announcements, newsletters, handouts and other documents;
- Attends meetings and conferences;
- Performs other duties as assigned.
PHYSICAL AND MENTAL STANDARDS:

- Mobility: frequent sitting for long periods; frequent walking and standing; occasional reaching above and below desk level; frequent balancing on varied surfaces.

ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:
Office environment; subject to interruptions and distractions. May include off campus travel, and occasional outdoor activities.
QUALIFICATIONS
Must meet Human Resources guidelines for qualified hiring; including but not limited to a Live Scan background check and completion of TB Test.
Sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, geographic and ethnic backgrounds of students, staff, and faculty.

LICENSE OR CERTIFICATE:
This classification requires the use of a personal vehicle while conducting District business. Must possess a valid (Class C) California Driver's license and an acceptable driving record.
