Description:
The Center for Digital and Human-Augmented Manufacturing (CDHAM) at SMU is a dynamic and highly skilled Research Assistant Professor to lead and support the center's advanced manufacturing operations. This role involves hands-on management of manufacturing machinery and equipment, providing technical support for research projects, and contributing to the daily operations of the center. It also plays a critical role in proposal development, contributing to research initiatives and fostering industry partnerships to drive innovative solutions in advanced manufacturing, digital twin technologies, and artificial intelligence (AI). Additionally, the position will involve teaching courses in manufacturing-related areas, supporting curriculum development and student engagement. The exact number of courses required to teach will be specified in the details of the contract. Key Responsibilities:
Project Support and Industry Collaboration: Provide technical expertise in the design, development, and execution of research projects. Assist with tours of CDHAM facilities for visiting industry partners, showcasing the center's capabilities and fostering collaborations.
Educational Support: Assist CDHAM and the Mechanical Engineering Department with educational needs and course delivery in manufacturing-related areas.
Student Supervision and Mentorship: Mentor and supervise undergraduate and graduate students working on research projects at CDHAM, providing the necessary guidance and support for their success. This includes advising on research projects and assisting with problem-solving.
Collaborative Research and Innovation Support: Collaborate closely with CDHAM's co-executive directors, faculty, and research staff to support the center's research goals. Contribute to the direction and innovation of projects, ensuring alignment with cutting-edge developments, as well as academic and industry standards.
Operation Management and Support: Manage the day-to-day operations of CDHAM, including machinery and equipment, to promote optimal performance and adherence to safety protocols. Oversee and manage, equipment, tools, and supplies ensuring the availability of necessary resources for research and operational activities.

Qualifications:
Qualified candidates must possess a PhD in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing, or a related field. Proficiency in engineering software such as SolidWorks, ANSYS, MATLAB, Python. Hands-on experience with the operation, and maintenance of manufacturing machinery and equipment and excellent communication and interpersonal skills to engage with students, faculty, and industry partners. Strong organizational skills with experience managing supplies, inventory, and operational tasks. The ability to mentor and supervise students in a research environment. Familiarity with Digital Twin, and AI technologies is a plus.
