The University of Colorado Boulder encourages applications for an Education Abroad Program Manager! This position exists in order to enable students to study abroad or to have an academic learning experience as an integral part of their University of Colorado Boulder academic career. Responsibilities include managing a portfolio of education abroad programs, advising students on program options, preparing students for a term away from the CU Boulder campus, and providing health and safety support. This position supports the Faculty-Led and Research Programs teams. The position is expected to further the strategic goals and mission of the University of Colorado Boulder and of Education Abroad, and to contribute to the University's Inclusive Excellence goals.Education Abroad is a unit within International Education in the Office of Undergraduate Education within the Division of Academic Affairs, at the University of Colorado Boulder. The mission of this unit is to develop, operate, and maintain a comprehensive portfolio of global education programs for CU Boulder students and academic units, including study abroad, domestic programs, international student exchanges, international internships, faculty-led Global Seminars and Global Intensives, and international research and service learning. The unit is responsible for health and safety and risk mitigation for students going abroad on CU Boulder sponsored programs, and oversees campus support for the International Travel Registration process.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be
Manage a Portfolio of Education Abroad Programs including Global Seminars:
- Oversee and manage a portfolio of assigned education abroad programs by working with program contacts, students, and others. Programs may include exchanges and various partner programs. Program assignments will correspond largely with the regional advising team area.
- Act as CU liaison with assigned program partners, maintaining relationships, facilitating collaboration, and advocating on behalf of CU students.
- Work with exchange teams, etc.
- Coordinate with overseas or U.S. partner institution colleagues on academics, logistics, cultural issues, health/safety issues, etc.
- If possible, meet with staff from program providers and overseas institutions to develop good working relationships.
- Ensure that all program information on the website and brochures is up to date.
- Serve as the first contact when an emergency or crisis happens abroad, working closely with the EA Director and Associate Director. It is essential to gather all pertinent information, notify all relevant parties, maintain accurate records of the situation, and work with relevant campus offices (OVA, CAPS, OIEC, Strategic Communication, etc.). It's also critical to understand and adhere to policies such as FERPA and HIPPA.
- World events and natural disasters can impact student health and safety and may lead to bringing students home or suspending programs in a country; address these problems in consultation with the Director of Education Abroad.
- Remain knowledgeable about health and safety issues for relevant cities/countries.
- Ensure that health and safety are thoroughly discussed during program-specific orientation meetings.
- Make decisions about accepting or rejecting students for education abroad programs based on students' qualifications and program prerequisites. Evaluate academic records, disciplinary records, linguistic abilities, and cross-cultural adaptability.
- Interview students with legal or disciplinary charges to make recommendations about their admission decision.
- Set academic conditions to be met by students who are not quite qualified but who can, in the manager's opinion, be ready to study abroad by the time the program begins.
- In cooperation with program/exchange partner staff, prepare admitted students by providing pre-departure materials and other resources, running pre-departure orientation meetings, and answering questions.
- Respond to inquiries from parents, who may occasionally be upset about policies or decisions.
- Work with the EA Director to recommend, approve and add new programs as needed.
- Evaluate and monitor feedback from students. Prepare annual program evaluation report for EA Director and make recommendations to the Director regarding issues and addition of new programs if needed.
- Periodically participate in overseas site visits and program reviews (typically once every two years).
- Work with relevant academic departments on campus to help students coordinate the academic side of their study abroad experience as it relates to course offerings/scheduling and other issues.
- Partner with other campus offices regarding specific student situations/issues (OFA, OSC, CAPS, OVA, Students of Concern, Academic Advisors).
- Work with faculty director to select or reject students for study abroad programs, based on students' qualifications and program prerequisites.
- Work closely with the faculty directors of the programs to coordinate program logistics, advertising, recruitment of students, application review, and selection of students.
- Comprehensively evaluate Global Seminars to ensure that a quality experience is being provided academically, logistically, culturally and regarding health and safety.
- Work closely with the Director of Global Seminars on any major changes to Global Seminars and/or when programs are running for the first time. Follow all steps/processes as communicated by the Director of Global Seminars.
- Alert the Director of Global Seminars to potential problems with these programs.
- Meet with faculty directors to set up a timeline for each year, including advertising and outreach, application processing, student interviews and selection, and pre-departure orientation.
- Decide which logistical changes (e.g., duties of overseas staff, student housing options, meeting dates at program sites, field trips) should be made to Global Intensives and use the appropriate methods to implement those changes, in consultation with the faculty director.
- Determine whether to continue the outreach efforts or cancel a program due to low enrollment; decision made with the director of Global Seminars and the Director of Education Abroad.
- Managing emergencies/crises for Global Seminars is even more critical because CU Boulder is the institution running the program and has increased liability, responsibility, and risk.
- Participate in continuing assessment of all processes and materials for optimal experience for faculty, students, and staff.
- Collaborate with Finance Team on program budgeting including RFP process.
- Work on info sessions and outreach.
- Support program development.
- Maintain websites.
- Liaise with departments.
- Advise students about opportunities for study abroad by meeting individually with walk-in students for the assigned region.
- Determine their interests, qualifications, and needs, and direct them to appropriate programs.
- Advise students about the academic, cultural, logistical, and practical aspects of the program/country (program eligibility requirements, housing, courses, finances, scholarships, visas, dates, arrival details, specific application processes, etc.).
- Advise students about education abroad policies and procedures and stay up to date on all policies/procedures by reading the weekly bulletin and attending staff meetings (or reading minutes if absent).
- Ensure that students understand their next steps at the end of each session.
- Maintain excellent knowledge of all programs within the regional area. Participate in regional training when new programs are added and refresher trainings twice per year.
- Provide excellent customer service and student support.
- Remain informed about relevant CU Boulder campus policies.
- Occasionally inform students that they are unable to study abroad (on a specific program or at all) and remain firm but compassionate when students are upset (explain policies thoroughly, provide any alternative options, be positive and encouraging regarding future possibilities).
- Take phone calls from students and parents, and comply with FERPA regulations.
- Record comments in TDS summarizing content and highlights from each advising session.
- Follow all relevant office procedures (i.e. TDS procedures, communication with front desk, referrals to others).
- When requested and when possible, provide backup advising during busy times outside of scheduled hours, or when other staff cannot take their advising shift.
- Cover other programs within the region as needed when other program managers on the regional team are out of the office.
- Serve on various summer committees to help EA advance its strategic plan and improve upon office efficiencies.
- Help with outreach events and presentations as needed.
- Provide support and backup for other team members as needed.
- Help advance new EA initiatives as they arise.
- Other duties as assigned.

What We Can Offer
- Salary: $55,000 - $65,000.

What We Require
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution of higher education or equivalent combination of education and experience may substitute.
- At least one plus years (preferably two) of professional experience in an education abroad office or in a student services department or in a study abroad provider organization demonstrating progressively responsible professional work in higher education.
- A demonstrated significant intercultural experience, and/or overseas life/work experience.
- Outstanding oral and written communication skills.
- Excellent computer and technology skills.
