Job Description Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate nurse to join the Penn Vet neurology team. This role involves client communication, assisting clinicians, collecting samples, and supporting neurology exams and procedures. You'll coordinate appointments, manage consultations, support surgeries, and ensure accurate billing. Job Description

Job Responsibilities

Nursing Responsibilities:
  • Return client calls and discuss with clinician, assist with prescription refills in/out of hospital
  • Collaboratively work with other nurses to ensure that the neurology patients are being given the highest patient care.
  • Submit/obtain blood and urine samples, place IV's in neuro patients as needed.
  • Learn all aspects of a neurology examination
  • Opportunities exist for the nurse to learn all aspects of neurology and to help the service grow

Appointments:
  • Verify that all necessary equipment and supplies are always available in the exam rooms
  • Make sure charges are complete and submitted to the business office
  • Provide restraint assistance during exams
  • Facilitate organizing appointment for the following day including collecting medical records and acquiring imaging studies

Consultations:
  • Act as a liaison between departments
  • Inform clinician on duty whenever a consultation is requested and be available to help with the case
  • Make sure that consultations are being charged; forms filled in and handed over to the Business office.

Surgery:
  • Make sure that surgery request is in on time. Act as a liaison between anesthesia, surgery team and wards.
  • If requested by clinician, verify the status of the patient in recovery and facilitate the transfer to wards. Ensure that the nurses have received all pertinent patient information on arrival.
  • If needed, be available to discharge patient and explain discharge instructions to client.

Administrative duties:
  • Verify that all client- related expenses are being charged. This includes the "no show" fee.
  • Maintain phone call book log and notify any clinician if they need to call back a client/referring veterinarian.
  • Provide your time sheet to service head for signatures weekly
  • Stocking, ordering

Teaching and Supervision:
  • Responsible for Harcum Nursing Students on assigned days
  • Organizing and supervising floating nurses and student nursing

Qualifications:

Must have at least 2 years of experience working with hospitalized small animals.

Veterinary Technician B: CVT and 2-3 years of experience

Veterinary Technician C: CVT and 3-5 years of experience

Veterinary Technician D: CVT and 5-8 years of experience

Veterinary Technician E: CVT and 8 + years of experience



Minimum starting salaries increase with each level. Relevant education, experience, skills, and licenses/ certifications are among the factors considered in salary offers.
