Job Summary:
The Department of Occupational Therapy (DOT) at Eastern Washington University (Spokane campus) invites applicant candidates for a full-time, 9-month tenure-track faculty position, starting August 16, 2025. We are looking for individuals with experience working in and teaching on the following content: geriatrics, mental health settings, pediatrics, assistive technology, physical disabilities, theory, assessments, and/or health and wellness.

This tenure-track position is for an assistant professor but associate professor rank may be negotiated dependent on qualifications. The successful applicant will have clinical expertise in one of the areas listed above and be expected to teach in one or more of these areas as well as several first year courses. The applicant will be expected to engage in scholarly activities, supervise MOT research or capstone projects, and engage in professional, university and departmental service.

The Department of Occupational Therapy offers a competitive graduate program for the Master of Occupational Therapy. The MOT program is conducted in a cohort model with 32 students per cohort. The program is completed in 2.5 years. Students complete all academic work during the first two years followed by two 3-month clinical internships.

We are situated within the College of Health Sciences and Public Health (CHSPH) and operate in a well-equipped campus in the University District near downtown Spokane, Washington. The college includes seven other health science programs: Physical Therapy, Communication Sciences and Disorders, Public Health, Dental Hygiene, Public Health and Health Sciences Administration, Nursing, Exercise Science and pre-Nursing. Our campus is inter-collegiate and includes a medical school, nursing, pharmacy, and dentistry programs. CHSPH has well established community partnerships and a commitment to serving rural and under-represented populations. The DOT works with school districts, agencies offering services to children, physical disabilities and other developmental disorders, a drop-in center for homeless women, a day program for adults with developmental disabilities, a variety of mental health and substance abuse treatment programs, as well as with local hospitals, clinics, and private practices. The expected salary upon hire for an Assistant Professor is $76,262 and for an Associate Professor it is $91,576. Required Qualifications:
  • PhD, post-professional OTD or other terminal doctorate degree in a related field
  • At least 3 years of clinical experience with at least 2 years in an area of expertise in occupational therapy
  • Eligibility for licensure as an occupational therapist in the State of Washington
  • A record of success and at least 1 year in university teaching
  • Evidence of collaboration, collegiality and team building
  • Demonstrated ability to apply a culturally responsive and flexible approach that is supportive to the diverse needs, including universal access, of our students, faculty, staff, and the public.

Additional required qualification to be considered for Associate Professor Rank:
  • At least 6 or more years of successful professional experience
  • A record of success and at least 2 or more years in university teaching



Preferred Qualifications:
The preferred applicant will have:
  • 5 or more years of clinical experience
  • A history of program management
  • A record of success in grant writing, program development, or research
  • Experience with supervising student research or capstone projects
  • More than 3 years of teaching experience in higher education
  • Experience in curriculum design, leadership and management, and/or instructing students in research methods.

Other Skills and Abilities:

Job Duties:
A Faculty Activity Plan will be developed by the end of the first semester of the selected candidates appointment, and will consist of a combination of teaching, research, service and/or release time to perform administrative duties, as negotiated and as needed to meet the business needs of the department.Teaching: typical workload for this position will involve 24 credits per academic year (80% of the workload), subject to department needs. This position will teach occupational therapy courses in classroom, clinical, laboratory, and simulated learning environments.Teaching includes the following additional responsibilities as defined in the faculty CBA:
  • Meet all scheduled classes
  • Plan, organize and inform students of course content, texts, readings, assignments, attendance expectations and methods of evaluation including grading scales
  • Schedule and attend office hours
  • Turn in grades according to established deadlines

Conditions of Employment:
Faculty appointed at the rank of tenure-track associate professor must be evaluated for tenure in the fourth year.

This position, during the course of university employment will be involved in the receipt of, or accountability for, university funds or other items of value, as well as the unsupervised access with the developmentally disabled, vulnerable adults or children under the age of 16. The offer of employment is contingent upon successful completion and passing of a background check prior to beginning employment.
