Position No. 5748. The SMU Department of Statistics and Data Science invites applications for an open-rank, tenure-track faculty position to begin in Fall 2024.

We seek scholars who have outstanding qualifications in statistics and data science and a commitment to interdisciplinary research and inclusive teaching. This position is part of a strategic cluster hire that seeks to foster large-scale collaborative research projects responding to some of humankind's most daunting challenges. The Statistics & Data Science position is associated with the Data Core. Faculty will teach in our statistics and data science programs and collaborate with faculty, as appropriate, in the other cluster areas.

The Department of Statistics & Data Science has 14 permanent faculty members, of whom 9 are tenured or on the tenure track. Faculty members conduct research in bioinformatics, causal modeling, clinical trials, human mobility data, imaging, incomplete data, machine learning, nonparametrics, sports analytics, stochastic processes, survival analysis, time series, topological data analysis, and wine economics. They collaborate with investigators in other departments at SMU, at the UT Southwestern Medical Center, and in other universities and government agencies. The department is the academic home for research and teaching in data science at SMU.

The department offers a PhD in Statistical Science, a PhD in Biostatistics (in collaboration with UT Southwestern Medical Center), a Master of Applied Statistics & Data Analytics, an online MS in Data Science, a BS in Statistics, and a BS in Data Science. It will begin offering a PhD in Data Science in Fall 2024. For more information, visit smu.edu/statistics.
