Job Summary:

The BI Developer plays a key role in providing holistic business intelligence and data analysis support for the Health Data Compass and the larger Anschutz community. This includes analyzing and delivering complex datasets in response to faculty healthcare data requests, developing reports, correlating and visualizing data using a variety of systems, and designing BI solutions to address projects or end-user requests. This position will contribute to Compass' mission of serving the Anschutz research community within a HIPAA-compliant environment. The role involves supporting healthcare investigators, faculty, and staff, both internal and external to Compass, to drive projects to completion and communicate expectations effectively.

Supervision Received: This position will report to the Data Delivery Manager or Data Request Program Manager.

Key Responsibilities:

Data Analytics & Dataset Delivery – 60%
  • Develop SQL queries to generate high-quality datasets and data marts, ensuring adherence to project scope, quality standards, and delivery timelines.
  • Identify and communicate data anomalies as necessary.
  • Verifies that delivered data is HIPAA-compliant.
  • Support team success through strong collaboration with engineers to troubleshoot data quality issues and validate new data sources to ensure accuracy and reliability. Direct users to the engineering team or OIT for their storage and computing needs.

BI Project Management - 40%
  • Lead customer engagement, scoping, and documentation efforts for data requests.
  • Ensure clarity and alignment with organizational objectives while working to design, develop, and deploy BI solutions, including reporting tools.
  • Ensure accuracy and timeliness in documenting project efforts and status through the Compass case management system.
  • Aligns business needs with technical solutions by translating requirements from clinicians and researchers into actionable technical specifications.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in a health science-related field (e.g., biostatistics, epidemiology, etc.) or a related field from an accredited institution.
  • At least two (2) years of professional experience working with enterprise data warehouses, including data profiling, data quality assessments, data analysis/reporting, and/or data set curation.

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

Condition of Employment:
  • Reliability and responsiveness by promptly communicating both internally and externally within 2 business days.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master's degree in a health science-related field (e.g., biostatistics, epidemiology, etc.) or a related field from an accredited institution.
  • SQL programming expertise.
  • Experience managing terminology mapping documentation, data profiling, and data mapping documentation.
  • Experience with clinical data and/or reporting from EHR (e.g., Epic proficiencies, certifications, or experience with Epic Clarity/Caboodle).
  • Experience in standardized clinical code systems (e.g., SNOMED CT, LOINC, RxNorm) and common data models (OMOP).
  • Experience working with secure web platforms for building and managing databases (e.g., REDCAP).
  • Experience working in an academic core service or support service.
  • Experience working within HIPAA-compliant and other sensitive data environments.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Advanced BI Developer skills.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • SQL skills for querying data (especially for cloud computing).
  • Strong analytical skills, critical thinking, attention to detail and accuracy, and strong interpersonal skills.

Anticipated Pay Range:

The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established as $66,346 to $84,392.

The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. This position may be eligible for overtime compensation, depending on the level.
