About the Position:

Cal State Fullerton's College of the Arts is distinguished by its fully accredited department of Visual Arts. Fine arts, new media, and design programs provide quality learning to 1,600 undergraduate and graduate students within state-of-the-art studios, classrooms, computer and design labs, and galleries. We seek an exceptional individual to join our team as the 3D Instructional Support Technician I. The ideal candidate in this role should have a positive attitude and an active, energetic mind that is characterized by highly ethical practices and a commitment to diversity, openness, flexibility, integrity, and kindness.

The 3D Instructional Support Technician I will collaborate with faculty, staff, and IT to support, track, maintain, and equipment to maximize instructional needs in the Bachelor of Fine Arts and Master of Arts/ Master of Fine Arts programs within the arts curriculum. The 3D Instructional Support Technician I configures, supports, maintains, and stays current with advancements in Ceramics, Glass, Jewelry Metalsmithing, Sculpture, and other related programs.

Under general supervision, oversees the Visual Art instructional resources and stockroom, providing day-to-day technical and equipment support for the Department of Art. Acts as liaison with Environmental Health and Safety personnel and disposes of hazardous materials in the department. Responsibilities include installing and maintaining classroom furniture, kilns, wood shop, and audio-visual equipment. Inventory control for replacement parts, raw materials used in art media, and tools for repair.

Offers classroom technical support to include documenting, retraining, and managing safe use of materials and equipment; supervising power shop usage and student training; training faculty in proper procedures for painting, printmaking, photography, and other waste chemical and dry materials disposal; training faculty in the appropriate use of smart classroom and mobile unit technology; assisting faculty and students in procurement services for bulk materials purchases; assisting with general use and repair of audiovisual/projectors and equipment; and providing additional instructional support as needed. Other duties as assigned.


Essential Qualifications:
Ability to prioritize and work well under pressure, meet deadlines, and maintain cooperative working relationships with students, staff, faculty, vendors and others, both on and off campus. Possess strong oral and written communication skills and an ability to prepare and budget schedules for general facilities, maintenance, and ordering of materials. Understand equipment operations and general repairs and/or maintenance along with health and safety precautions common to a visual arts environment. Equivalent of two-years experience providing instructional support services in an art or related unit or discipline, acting as a student assistant or equivalent of two years of college with 16 units of credit in courses involving extensive use of materials, supplies, or equipment in Art or a related discipline may be substituted for the experience.

A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily and is required for employment. CSU will make a conditional offer of employment, which may be rescinded if the background check reveals disqualifying information, and/or it is discovered that the candidate knowingly withheld or falsified information. Failure to complete the background check satisfactorily may affect the continued employment of a current CSU employee who was conditionally offered the position.


Preferred Qualifications:
Knowledge of university policies and procedures and an ability to adjust to differing situations. Basic skills in carpentry, glass, jewelry making, electrical, plumbing and operational knowledge of audio/video/computer equipment.
