Job Summary:

The Clinical Epidemiology Division at the Barbara Davis Center (BDC) has a robust clinical research program designed to improve health conditions in adults living with Type 1 Diabetes. Research is conducted on health complications of type 1 diabetes, new advanced diabetes technology, outcomes related to use of technology, and the environmental factors that increase the risk of developing T1D. The successful candidate will actively participate in facilitating patient-oriented research projects conducted by BDC investigators. Clinical Science Professionals may also assist with epidemiologic and behavioral studies and/or outcomes research. This role includes a combination of clinical research duties (60%) and data management and analysis duties (40%).

Key Responsibilities:
  • Recruit, interview, and enroll study participants
  • Perform study related processes, procedures, and assessments
  • Collect blood and tissue samples, and process, aliquot and store samples
  • Collect and code data obtained from research.
  • Manage data downloads, create database forms and processes, and ensure integrity of data collected.
  • Perform basic statistical analyses under the direction of the Principal Investigator
  • Maintain detail records of studies to ensure regulatory and protocol compliance

Work Location:

Onsite – this role is expected to work onsite and is located in Aurora, Colorado.

The Barbara Davis Center (BDC) provides state-of-the-art diabetes care to >7,500 active patients, including 4,600 children and 2,900 adults. Under the leadership of Dr. Janet Snell-Bergeon, the Clinical Epidemiology Division at the BDC conducts research studies examining the epidemiology of type 1 diabetes in susceptible children, health complications of type 1 diabetes in adolescents and adults, and studies regarding novel diabetes technologies and therapeutics.

Dr. Snell-Bergeon's research study portfolio is funded by the National Institutes of Health, the American Diabetes Association, Helmsley Charitable Trust, and Breakthrough T1D. Her current research studies include a prenatal cohort examining the exposures during pregnancy that may influence islet autoimmunity risk in the child, studies examining the effect of the menstrual cycle on glycemic management in young women with type 1 diabetes, observational studies and clinical trials of novel treatments in type 1 diabetes, cardiovascular and renal complications of type 1 diabetes, and bone health.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

Intermediate Level
  • Bachelor's degree in a health or science related field
  • A combination of education and related technical/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for the bachelor's degree on a year for year basis
  • One (1) year clinical research or related clinical or data management experience

Senior Level
  • Bachelor's degree in a health or science related field
  • A combination of education and related technical/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for the bachelor's degree on a year for year basis
  • Two (2) years clinical research or related clinical or data management experience

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

Preferred Qualifications:

Intermediate Level
  • Master's degree in science or health related field (e.g. Public Health, Epidemiology)
  • Two (2) years of clinical research or related experience
  • Experience with electronic data capture systems (e.g. EMR or EHR and data management systems)
  • Phlebotomy experience and/or IV certification.
  • Experience building databases (Redcap, Microsoft Access) and running SQL queries
  • Statistical analysis experience using SAS or R.
  • Experience with or knowledge of Type 1 Diabetes

Senior Level
  • Master's degree in science or health related field (e.g. Public Health, Epidemiology)
  • Three (3) years of clinical research or related experience
  • Experience with electronic data capture systems (e.g. EMR or EHR and data management systems)

  • Knowledge of basic human anatomy, physiology medical terminology

Anticipated Pay Range:

The starting salary range for this position has been established as:

Intermediate Level: $51,956 - $66,088

Senior Level: $56,169 - $71,447

The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. This position may be eligible for overtime compensation, depending on the level.
