Job Summary:

The CU Department of Anesthesiology seeks a Financial Analyst at the rank of either Intermediate Professional or Senior Professional, dependent on candidate experience, who is responsible for understanding the complexities, systems, and the funds flow between the University of Colorado School of Medicine, Children's Hospital Colorado, UCHealth Hospital System, and CU Medicine while supporting the Department's Finance, Administration, and Operations teams in a variety of financial and business analysis tasks in order to provide accurate and timely requests for financial data, analysis, projections and various projects.

The Financial Analyst will perform monthly reconciliations of all Department accounts and will inform the Department Managers, Administrators, and the Director of Finance & Administration of any inconsistencies. The Financial Analyst will also collaborate with Payroll Specialist and relevant Division Administrators to review and reconcile Department salary distributions. Reoccurring reports will consist of faculty compensation tracking, Department account roll up, and funding source invoice reconciliation. This position is also responsible for one-time requests including, but not limited to: check requests, journal entries, speedtype creation, completion of national compensation benchmarking surveys, and financial report requests as they come from Department Administrators and/or the Director of Finance & Administration.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Process financial transactions such as interdepartmental transfers, journal entries, cash receipts, etc.
  • Prepare monthly and/or quarterly reconciliation and variance reports for clinical budgets; perform monthly reconciliation at GL level of monthly clinical finances; and assist with developing additional financial analysis tools to be used in the monthly preparation and review of financial information
  • Develop and run various financial reports, including gift accounts, and prepare ad hoc reports as required
  • Develop, maintain, and distribute various A2E reports
  • Maintenance of departmental funds flow structure and proper allocations; researching, documenting, and helping communicate with both UCD and CU Medicine Finance policies and procedures
  • Assist with University State administrative budgeting and monitoring of expenses and allocations, as needed
  • Assist Education and Research Managers as needed with reporting and maintenance of education and research accounts
  • Develop and maintain and distribute various A2E reports

Work Location:

Onsite to Hybrid - This role is expected to work onsite initially for at least four months to build and establish relationships and is located in Aurora, Colorado. After four months and upon supervisor's determination, the role will be considered for a flexible hybrid work schedule. Supervisor is responsible for determining number of on-campus days/week based on position's level of focus work, collaboration needs, etc. The Department places a high value on building working relationships and collaboration, and therefore, all department staff have mandatory on-campus days.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:
  • A bachelor's degree in business, business administration, finance, accounting, healthcare administration, public administration, information systems, or a directly related field from an accredited institution.
    • Substitution: A combination of education and related technical/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for the bachelor's degree on a year-for-year basis.

Intermediate Professional:
  • 1 year of professional-level experience with duties in finance, budgeting, or accounting

Senior Professional:
  • 2 years of professional-level experience with duties in finance, budgeting, or accounting

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • 2+ years progressive experience in finance, accounting, data analysis, or other quantitative field
  • Experience using financial reporting systems such as Excel, Access, Concur, MyBI, etc.
  • Experience working in higher education and/or an academic medical environment
  • Familiarity with University and CU Medicin fiscal policies and procedures
  • Experience managing a large volume of financial data
  • Experience with financial database development
