Job Summary

The Pre-Professional Advisor for the Office of Career and Professional Development is an essential point of contact for undergraduate, graduate, and post-baccalaureate students and alumni seeking admittance to professional graduate programs leading to careers in law and medical professions. The Pre-Professional Advisor assists students in completing their educational and career goals by interpreting information concerning course descriptions, program requirements, prerequisites, and application processes for the professional graduate programs of their choice. This position is vital in maximizing students' persistence to graduation and subsequent acceptance to professional programs by helping students enhance their graduate school applications and strengthen their overall competitiveness as applicants.

This position has been identified by Federal Law (Jeanne Clery Act) as a Campus Security Authority (CSA), with significant student and campus responsibilities. CSA's are obligated to report crimes reported to them which occurred on campus, in public areas bordering campus and in certain non-campus buildings owned or controlled (leased) by the University.

Responsibilities
  • Advise students on academic requirements of graduate programs in health professions and law via individual and group advising sessions. Identify challenges that may negatively impact student success and increase awareness of related career paths
  • Coordinate and execute information and interest sessions, professional development workshops, recruitment events, and professional school site visits
  • Assist students in seeking out experiential opportunities within their chosen career fields including shadowing, observation hours, internships, volunteerism, and GAP year opportunities
  • Guide students in writing professional resumes and personal statements as well as effectively promoting their backgrounds to admission committees through mock interviews
  • Conduct regular reviews of professional school requirements and revise program requirements, resources, and advising strategies as needed

Proposed Salary

$46,800 - $53,854

This is an exempt position paid on a monthly basis.
