Position Summary:
The University of Idaho seeks to hire a Full Professor for a tenured fiscal year Area Extension Educator appointment. Rank of Full Professor and Tenure will be awarded only if the candidate meets the criteria outlined in department and college bylaws.

The Area Extension 4-H Educator provides leadership to statewide Civic Engagement and Teen Programs in consultation with the State 4-H Director and supports local Extension 4-H personnel with program planning, delivery, and evaluation based on identified needs. The educator will promote UI Extension programs with clientele, elected officials, and community partners. They encourage program continuity enabling the development/delivery of consistent, high-quality youth and volunteer educational materials while providing forward-thinking leadership to create experiential programs to meet the current and emerging needs of youth, volunteers, and staff. They will function as members of Extension program planning teams while contributing to state programs. Area Educators provide leadership and promote effective, efficient communication, collaboration, and coordination to county 4-H personnel. In addition, they encourage expanded youth and volunteer participation through various program delivery modes and innovative practices to bolster inclusivity among diverse and underserved audiences. Through creating, implementing, and evaluating training opportunities, personnel and volunteers acquire skills to enhance leadership, citizenship, communication, and sound decision-making. Area Educators assist in networking with community partners to secure external financial resources to enhance positive youth development programming. They liaise between local Extension 4-H personnel and the State 4-H Office, facilitating open communication and programmatic alignment with state initiatives/policies. They also work in concert with county chairs to guide local Extension 4-H personnel are advocates/resources in addressing issues or conflict management situations. This position works closely with 4-H Professionals and applicable specialists to create, conduct, and evaluate innovative educational programs that lead to peer-reviewed Extension scholarship, including but not limited to: professional journal articles, curricula, publications, audio/visual packages, websites, professional conference presentations, or Impact Statements. Achievements will be reported in the annual Extension reporting system. Professional service, including service to professional associations, reviewing Extension publications/manuscripts/external promotion packets, faculty meetings, Extension Annual Conference, participation in committees, recruitment of students to the University of Idaho, and service at the department, college, or university level is expected. Area Educators will be consistent with the unit performance expectations; CALS Policies for Faculty Performance Expectations, Annual Performance Evaluations, and Promotion and Tenure Criteria; and in alignment with UI Extension and U of I Strategic Plans. In addition, they will ensure compliance with the University of Idaho policy on non-discrimination as stated in the University of Idaho Faculty-Staff Handbook, Section 3060.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • An earned Ph.D or Ed.D in an area relevant to UI Extension 4-H Youth Development.
  • Must hold the rank of full professor and tenure or their equivalent at an accredited university extension program, or a professional record that would qualify for full professor and tenure at the University of Idaho.
  • Five or more years of programmatic 4-H leadership work experience with 4-H Youth Development at the county, district, state, regional, and national levels.
  • Experience with increasingly intricate goals and objectives with high-level leadership, promotion of diversity, communication, vision, and management.
  • Experience with administrative and leadership in an organization with responsibilities for budgeting, financial planning, personnel management, strategic planning, and critical decision making.
  • Experience working in a team, diversity in management and promotion of programs and resources as well as experience working with a variety of people.
  • Experience with leading a team that is inclusive, empowers others to succeed, fosters respect, builds pride in the accomplishment of shared goals and feeds upon two-way communication.
  • Experience in securing external funding.


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Demonstrated experiences in designing, implementing, delivering, and evaluating community based, volunteer delivered outreach education program for youth and adult audiences.
  • Positive national reputation as evidenced by appropriate service.
  • Experience in leading multi-state or national committees.
