Job Summary

A Professional Research Assistant position is available beginning in September 2024 in the Molecular Neurogenetics Laboratory led by Dr. Jerry Stitzel at the Institute for Behavioral Genetics, University of Colorado Boulder. We are seeking a highly motivated individual who will contribute to the research being conducted in the laboratory as well as oversee several lab management duties.
The University of Colorado Boulder is committed to building a culturally diverse community of faculty, staff, and students dedicated to contributing to an inclusive campus environment. We are an Equal Opportunity employer, including veterans and individuals with disabilities.

Who We Are

The primary goal of the Molecular Neurogenetics Laboratory is to understand how genes contribute to nicotine use and co-morbid psychiatric conditions. The laboratory utilizes mouse models to assess the role of genes and genetic variants on the behavioral and molecular effects of nicotine. In addition, molecular methods and cell culture approaches are used to characterize both mouse and human genetic variants and to evaluate the mechanisms through which specific genes and/or genetic variants associated with nicotine behaviors in mice and humans impact molecular and cellular processes. The main project with which the selected candidate will be involved will explore how disrupting the expression of select genes in astrocytes alters the cellular response of astrocytes to nicotine in vitro and in vivo and how disrupting these genes in astrocytes in mice affects the animal's response to a battery of behavioral responses to nicotine.
