Position Description

Based in the athletics department and reporting to the Deputy Athletics Director. The Director of Redhawk Athletic Bands would provide overall direction and leadership of the program including:

Program Leadership (40%)
  • Create and implement the University's vision for the program, both short term and long term.
  • Working with Associate AD for Strategic Communications, develop marketing/recruiting materials including a band name & logo.
  • Work closely with the Assistant AD for Finance and Business Operations to develop and maintain annual budget, coordinate purchases, and manage travel.
  • Work with the Athletic Department's Business Office to coordinate all purchases.
  • Coordinate all travel logistics.
  • Supervise a part time assistant director.
  • Work with Athletic department Administration to develop band policies.

Student Development (30%)
  • Coordinating all on campus student recruitment.
  • Working with admissions, create an ongoing recruitment program of high school and community college students.
  • Mentor and support student musicians in their musical and personal growth.
  • Organize workshops and masterclasses to improve musical skills and ensemble playing.

Performance Coordination (30%)
  • Coordinate the selection of all music.
  • Coordinate instrument quotes and subsequent purchase.
  • Coordinate all performances.
  • Coordinate the rehearsal schedule and all subsequent rehearsals.
  • Work closely with the Athletic Department's Marketing Department and the head of the spirit program to develop an effective role for the band in the basketball "game day experience."


Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Music Education, Music Performance, or a related field; Master's degree preferred.
  • Previous experience directing a pep band or similar ensemble at the high school or collegiate level.
  • Demonstrated proficiency on a musical instrument, preferably within a band setting.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills.
  • Ability to engage and motivate students from diverse backgrounds.
  • Proficiency in arranging music for various ensembles and skill levels.

Compensation at a Glance

Salary Range: $28.00 - $29.00 per hour

Seattle University has provided a compensation range that represents its good faith estimate of what the University may pay for the position at the time of posting. The salary offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal salary equity considerations, and available market information, and not based on a candidate's gender or any other protected status.
