The DVC Library is seeking a visionary, equity-minded and collaborative Collections Librarian to join our dynamic library team. This full-time faculty position will play a critical role in developing and managing the library's print and electronic resources collections, ensuring they align with DVC's mission, vision, and values. The Collections Librarian will lead efforts to curate a diverse and inclusive collection that supports the educational needs of students, faculty, and staff, both in physical and virtual spaces. The ideal candidate will possess strong technical skills and a strategic vision for collection development that not only supports instructional programs but also advances the college's commitment to equity and student success.

In addition, the Collections Librarian will engage in all the key responsibilities of faculty librarians including information literacy instruction, reference, college governance, and departmental liaison work.

  1. Develop, maintain, and oversee a diverse and inclusive collection of print and electronic resources, including books, scholarly databases, and streaming media, to support DVC's academic programs and align with the college's strategic goals
  2. Collaborate with faculty, staff, and learning communities to ensure that library collections meet the curricular and research needs of the college.
  3. Engage in ongoing assessment and data-driven decision-making to enhance the quality, equity, and accessibility of library resources.
  4. Participate in the library's information literacy instruction, reference, and liaison programs.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The position will engage in a full range of reference, library instruction, collection management and outreach activities. In addition to contractual duties, all faculty are expected to participate actively in their disciplines, department activities, and the general intellectual life and governance of the college. Part of the assignment may be in the evening and/or online. Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:
1. providing vision, direction, and leadership in the development, delivery, and assessment of all Library instructional efforts for campus-based and distance education;
2. providing reference service and instruction on the use of print and electronic information resources to students, faculty, staff and the community;
3. participating in the collection, development and implementation of print and electronic information resources and services;
4. providing course related library instruction;
5. collaborating with faculty on assignments, collection needs, and integration of information literacy into the college curriculum;
6. developing library collections in the assigned subject areas;
7. contributing to the development and maintenance of the Library's web page;
8. maintaining current knowledge in the field of Library Science and Information Management;
9. participating in department, college committees, and College's shared governance process;
10. participating in professional development activities;
11. maintaining of appropriate standards of professional conduct and ethics;
12. performing other related duties as assigned.
13. Minimum Qualification-Education/Experience:
Understanding of and sensitivity to the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, sexual orientation and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, staff and faculty.

This position requires:

A) Master's degree in library science or library and information science



OR B)

I have a California Community College Instructor Credential authorizing full-time work as a Librarian

OR C) The equivalent.

  4. Demonstrated experience with collection development and oversight, including data-driven assessment to inform collection development decisions.
  5. Demonstrated experience with electronic resources management, including streaming media and scholarly databases.
  6. Training and/or experience with information literacy instruction, reference, and library liaison work.
  7. Excellent collaboration, communication, and organizational skills.
