Job Description:
Syracuse University's D'Aniello Institute for Veterans and Military Families (IVMF) is seeking a dedicated and knowledgeable Policy Analyst to support the organization's policy and advocacy efforts. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in policy analysis, research, and advocacy, preferably with an understanding of the unique challenges faced by transitioning service members, veterans and their families. This role involves analyzing current legislation and policies, developing briefs and policy materials, supporting engagements and coordination with partners, and tracking activities to ensure compliance with grants and reporting requirements.

Responsibilities:
- Conduct comprehensive research and analysis on policies impacting service members, veterans and military families aligned with the IVMF's priorities.
- Monitor and evaluate legislation, committee activities, agency priorities, budgets, and other developments and emerging issues to identify areas for the IVMF to engage with policymakers to advance policy agenda.
- Develop policy briefs, memos, and recommendations in support of testimony, statements for the record, public comment, and responses to requests for information.
- Coordinate with internal teams to gather feedback from research evaluation, programs, and other stakeholders to ensure policy materials reflect the IVMF's unique perspective
- Support communication and collaboration with the University government relations team to ensure alignment and successful joint activities, where appropriate.
- Coordinate with consultants and outside partners the IVMF works with, including government relations and other firms, research and data partners, and other stakeholders.
- Track and document the organization's policy activities for required university and grant reports.
- Support grant writing and fundraising efforts, to include preparation of content for proposals and reports with a policy focus or policy workstreams.
- Participate in internal meetings and strategy sessions to provide policy insights and updates.
- Assist with planning and execution of policy-related engagements, including roundtables, briefings, events, and meetings.
