Join the Bucknell University Financial Services Team as a Bursar Services Assistant!
The Bursar Services Assistant serves as the primary point of contact for the Bursar Services Office, providing essential support for the office's cashiering operations. In this role, you will handle a wide range of customer inquiries, assist with payment processing, and ensure the efficient execution of day-to-day financial transactions. Your responsibilities will include processing payments, maintaining accurate financial records, and supporting the smooth handling of financial tasks. You will collaborate closely with the Bursar Services Manager and other members of the Financial Services team to ensure accurate and seamless operations across the department.
To be successful in this role, you will need strong customer service skills, an eye for detail, and the ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment. The position requires a high level of professionalism, both in person and on the phone, as well as a strong understanding of financial transactions. You must be able to work independently as well as part of a team, contributing to the overall success of the office's operations.

Hiring Requirements
Reporting Relationships / Direct Reports:
- Reports to the Bursar Services Manager
What You'll Do:
Office Operations | 60% | Greet incoming visitors (faculty, staff, students, parents) and provide assistance with general inquiries in a professional, courteous, and efficient manner. Serve as the primary point of contact for the Bursar Service's phone queue, addressing inquiries and routing calls as necessary. Monitor and respond to department emails promptly, ensuring timely and accurate communication. Distribute and process Financial Services incoming mail. Assist in maintaining the Finance Office phone queue and email. Maintain inventory and order office supplies.
Cashiering | 20% | Reconcile daily deposits with bank records to ensure accuracy. Collaborate with the University's bank to resolve daily banking issues and inquiries.
Maintain and monitor specific denominations and balances within the Bucknell vault to ensure accuracy and security.
Financial Transactions| 20% | Process departmental deposits. Accurately and efficiently post payments to the system. Generate invoices for outside scholarships and related payments. Post memos to student accounts to reflect scholarship activity. Monitor the receipt of payments and ensure proper allocation to student accounts. Maintain the ACH deductions for Bucknell retirees.
Other duties as assigned | Participates in all aspects of program and department planning and in the establishment of department goals and objectives.
What You'll Bring:
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
- Professional Work Experience: At least one year of experience handling large sums of money and managing financial transactions.
- Confidentiality & Discretion: Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion.
- Customer Service: Strong interpersonal skills with a proven ability to provide exemplary customer service.
- Collaboration & Teamwork: Capable of working effectively in a collaborative environment with cross-functional teams.
- Accounting Knowledge: Familiarity with general accounting practices.
- Computer Skills: Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.
Preferred, but not required:
- Education: Associates Degree
- Professional Work Experience: 1-2 years of experience working in higher education.
- Computer Skills: Intermediate - Advanced experience using Microsoft Office applications.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to work in an office setting, with or without accommodations, to include: sitting, standing, moving about the office and campus.
- Ability to lift up to 15 pounds.
- Capable of accompanying a Public Safety team member for daily bank deposits.

The offer rate will be based on a review of the candidate's credentials compared to the qualifications of the position, internal equity, and our overall compensation philosophy.
