Position Summary:
The Department of Animal, Veterinary and Food Sciences is seeking to hire an assistant professor for a tenure track Research Faculty - Extension Specialist position at the University of Idaho. Consumer food safety is an essential component of food safety education of consumers and has been a long-standing commitment of University of Idaho Extension and food science education. There is tremendous demand from consumers statewide for this position. This role will serve 0% teaching and advising, 25% scholarship and creative activity, 70% outreach and extension, and 5% university service and leadership. This position provides food safety training to consumers statewide, and will participate in statewide outreach, and will also conduct publishable research on food safety.

Eligible for summer funding.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • PhD in Food Science, Family and Consumer Sciences, Nutritional Sciences, Food Microbiology, or a closely related discipline.
  • Experience with informed and cutting-edge community-based food safety programs.
  • Experience with written and oral communication skills.
  • Experience with implementing food safety programs.


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience working in Extension.
  • Demonstrated experience in the development of initiatives aimed at enhancing institutional and community nutrition and food safety groups.
  • Experience in grant application and administration.
