Job Summary:
Reporting to the Director of the Counseling and Student Development Center, the incumbent serves as the departmental specialist on assessment and treatment of alcohol and other drug misuse clinical issues. The specialist provides initial assessments, brief individual and group therapy, and crisis intervention for Bucknell students and clinical consultation and mental health programming to the Bucknell community. The specialist will chair a multidisciplinary clinical team on the assessment and treatment of students with AOD misuse presentations. This position provides outreach and education on various topics but with a specific focus on alcohol and other drug issues.
Job Duties:
Reporting Relationships / Direct reports:
- Staff Counselor reports to the Director, Counseling and Student Development Center.
What You'll Do:
Clinical Service:
- Provides direct clinical services to students, including brief individual and group psychotherapy, initial assessments, daytime and after hours crisis coverage and consultation, and referral to off-campus providers, when indicated.
- Maintains timely clinical documentation and necessary statistics of therapeutic and other client contacts in accordance with department policies and expectations.
- Serves as the CSDC departmental specialist on alcohol and other drug assessment and treatment issues and provides professional development on those issues as requested.
- Chairs an interdisciplinary AOD assessment and treatment team.
- Coordinates with consulting psychiatrist regarding medication management for shared clients/patients.
- Consults with parents, physicians, faculty, academic deans, residence education staff, off-campus treatment providers, other campus offices and students, when appropriate, and with appropriate authorization in order to provide quality care to students..
Community-Based Collaborations and Consultations:
- Conducts outreach and developmental programming, as requested, including, but not limited to, orientation sessions for new students and families, workshop presentations and emergency support services to the campus community.
Supervision:
- Supervises masters and doctoral level graduate students in training as needed.
Professional Development:
- Participates in Student Affairs or university committees, in consultation with and/or as assigned by the Director.
- Attends and participates in regular CSDC staff meetings and in-service trainings.
- Maintains licensure as described in State of Pennsylvania licensure rules/regulations.
Non Essential Functions:

Work Setting:
- On campus and some remote work if deemed clinically appropriate.
Education:
- Licensed as a Clinical Social Worker, or Counselor in Pennsylvania.
- Master's of Social Work OR Master's degree in Clinical or Counseling Psychology or a closely related field.
Professional Work Experience:
- One or more years of post-licensure experience in a mental health field working with young adults.
Professional Certification or License:
- Licensure: Licensed as a Clinical Social Worker or Professional Counselor in the State of Pennsylvania or license-eligible to practice in Pennsylvania and able to provide proof of credentials as part of the pre-hire process. Licensure must be secured within 6 months of start date. The university does not reimburse for initial nor renewal licensure fees.
Knowledge and Skills:
- Knowledge of best practices and legal, ethical, and regulatory issues in mental health.
- Demonstrated clinical experience in assessing and treating alcohol and other drug concerns.
- Demonstrated experience providing short-term/brief therapy and crisis intervention.
- Demonstrated experience working with a diverse group of clients and cultural backgrounds.
Added Bonus:
Professional Work Experience:
- One to two years of experience working in a counseling center at an institution of higher education.
Knowledge Areas and Skills:
- Credentialed as a Certified Alcohol and other Drug Counselor (CADC).
- Demonstrated experience collaborating across disciplines and campus partners.
- Knowledge of models of prevention and health promotion and experience conducting community outreach.
- Strong consultation skills around critical mental health issues affecting students.
Physical Requirements:
- Able to move equipment and supplies weighing up to 30 pounds
- Able to remain in a stationary position for extended periods of time; sit or stand at a computer and use a mouse/keyboard for long periods of time
- Able to move about the office to access file cabinets and office equipment such as phones, copiers and printers
- Able to work in an environment with a moderate level of interruptions

54,080.00-67,600.00
The offer rate will be based on a review of the candidate's credentials compared to the qualifications of the position, internal equity, and our overall compensation philosophy.
This role is not budgeted for visa sponsorship at this time, all candidates must be authorized to work in the US at the time of submission of the application.
