We are a gut microbiome research lab in the Department of Biomedical Informatics. We conduct clinical and laboratory research on how the gut microbiome influences various disease states including HIV and C. difficile infection. We also run a microbiome sequencing core that generates and analyzes 16S ribosomal RNA targeted sequencing data from biological samples and provides services in the culture of bacteria of interest. The lab tech position in the Lozupone lab will work under the supervision of the Lab Manager and PI to collect and track incoming samples, prepare samples for sequencing, assist in bioinformatic analysis, as well as general laboratory maintenance.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Handling biological samples including human and animal blood, saliva, and stool and preparing those samples for sequencing including DNA extractions and library prep using pipetting, PCR, qPCR, and instrument operation.
  • General laboratory maintenance including cleaning and supply logistics.
  • Preparation of laboratory reagents.
  • Preparation and maintenance of bacterial culture under aerobic and anaerobic conditions.
  • Prepare laboratory data for discussion and presentation.

Work Location:

Onsite - this role is expected to work onsite and is located in Aurora, CO.

Why Join Us:

Lozupone Lab combines bioinformatics and experimental work to understand the driving factors of the human microbiota composition, host: microbe interactions, and the intersection with diet in a variety of disease contexts. Our work has a particular focus on HIV, cancer and Clostridioides difficile infection.

We actively develop novel computational methods for the analysis of microbiome and multi'omic data. We also provide 16S rRNA targets sequencing and analysis as a service and for collaborators to support microbiome research. A lab tech in the Lozupone lab has an integral supporting role for this research.
