About the Position:

This role is an on-campus, in-person position.

The Caruth Institute for Engineering Education (CIEE) is seeking a Program Specialist to assist with planning and execution of programs and initiatives within the Institute. The Program Specialist will help develop and deliver engaging STEM-focused curriculum and activities for youth with a focus on engineering principles fostering a positive and collaborative learning environment. As a key member of the team, the candidate will ensure the Institute's goals are met on time, within budget, and to the highest standards.

Essential Functions:

Assists in designing and creating an age-appropriate curriculum focused on various engineering principles (e.g., mechanical, electrical, civil, robotics, etc.).
Develops project-based learning activities, challenges and instructional materials that engage students and promote problem-solving and critical thinking.
Collaborates with the engineering team and subject-matter experts to ensure content accuracy and relevance.
Fosters a positive and supportive learning environment for students, encouraging curiosity, creativity, and teamwork.
Provides ongoing support and guidance to camp staff to ensure the highest standards of teaching and safety.
Assists with the recruitment and on-boarding of student workers or volunteers supporting the program.
Assists in monitoring and managing program resources, supplies management, and other logistical needs related to the program.
Helps promote the programs through social media and community outreach.
Provides administrative support, including updating and generating program-related documents and forms.
Occasional evening/weekend hours may be required for events and outreach activities.

Qualifications

Education and Experience:

A Bachelor's degree is required. A Master's degree is preferred. A degree in Engineering or Education is highly preferred.

A minimum of three (3) years of experience is required. Fieldwork or teaching experience in K-12 settings or youth out-of-school programs is preferred. Experience in design-based learning, education, and technical writing is highly desired. A teaching certification is strongly preferred.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Candidate must demonstrate strong interpersonal and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate broadly across the University and develop and maintain effective relationships with a wide range of constituencies. Must also demonstrate strong written communication skills.

Candidate must possess strong problem-solving skills with the ability to identify and analyze problems, as well as devise solutions. Must also have strong organizational, planning and time management skills.

Candidate must be able to demonstrate proficiency in Microsoft Office.

Candidate familiarity with CAD, simulation tools and coding is preferred.
