Summary of Responsibilities


  • Actively supervises and trains lead, full-time, and hourly custodians to ensure their areas are clean, safe, and procedures are being followed. Maintains good public relations.
  • Reviews electronic time sheets, leave reports, work orders, equipment repair forms, training records and all necessary paperwork. Approves Time Entry Management System in coordination with the manager for lead, full-time, and student hourly employees. Approves leave for student employees when the leave takes more than five consecutive days. Provides progressive discipline with part-time employees.
  • Covers in the absence of the Lead Custodian in their assigned areas
  • Hiring and coordinating orientation for leads and full-time employees. Training leads and full- time employees. Functions as the first line of disciplinary action for lead and full-time.
  • Assigns and follows up on work orders, and other special work assignments to building leads and custodial employees. Responds to customer concerns and complaints via email, phone, and face to face.
  • Trains custodial staff on blood borne pathogens, Right to Know, and other safety related issues. Trains custodial staff on proper cleaning techniques, floor care procedures and the use of all custodial equipment to include floor and flood care equipment.
  • Performs other job related duties as assigned.


Qualifications / Licenses / Certifications

Graduation from an accredited institution with a bachelor's degree in a related field or a combination of education and/or experience related to the summary of duties
totaling 4 years.

Knowledge / Skills / Abilities


Knowledge
Knowledge of training in the proper use of hazardous chemicals and products.
  • Knowledge of proper protection and cleanup of body fluids.
  • Knowledge of proper radio communications.
  • Knowledge of current cleaning techniques and proper use of cleaning chemicals.
  • Knowledge of minor custodial equipment maintenance and when to turn equipment over to technicians for repairs.
  • Working knowledge of custodial procedures, equipment, chemicals and safety (OSHA rules and regulations).
  • Knowledge of custodial supplies, equipment and/or services.
Skills
  • Skills in the use of proper custodial and maintenance techniques.
  • Skills supervising, training and developing employees.
  • Skills in effective communication, problem-solving and decision-making.
  • Skills in the use of hand tools applicable to the trade.
  • Skills in reading and interpreting operation and maintenance manuals.
  • Skills in computer usage and the ability to learn and use new programs.
Abilities
  • Ability to supervise and provide on-the-job training.
  • Ability to perform heavy lifting with the ability to expend arduous physical effort and to work in conditions that may involve some hazards and considerable discomforts.
  • Ability to hire and train custodians with the goal of maintaining a safe, clean, and cooperative workplace.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with leaders, co-workers, other departments and customers, both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to read, understand, follow and enforce safety procedures.
  • Ability to supervise and train employees, to include organizing, prioritizing and scheduling work assignments.
