DEPARTMENT/PROGRAM SUMMARY
KAZU is operated under the legal oversight of the University Corporation at Monterey Bay (University Corporation), an auxiliary of California State University Monterey Bay (University) and the California State University system. KAZU is the flagship National Public Radio (NPR)-member radio station for the Monterey Bay Area, licensed in Pacific Grove, California, United States, by the University Corporation. The programming KAZU provides for this region includes twenty-four hour "over-the-air" broadcasts and digital platforms that provide a vital service to the listening community through local news and current events at both the national and world levels. The station's key programming includes its website, "kazu.org" as well as its two mobile applications, KAZU and NPR One. For national and international news, KAZU incorporates programming from NPR, BBC World News, PRI (Public Radio International) and APM (American Public Media).

POSITION SUMMARY
The administrative support staff is a detail-oriented professional, that provides courteous and customer service-oriented communications with members of the community, donors, clients and colleagues by phone, email or in person at the station. They will handle a variety of tasks, including office administration, donor relations, and correspondence to help ensure smooth day-to-day operations.

Examples of Duties

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include. but are not limited to. the following:

  • Answers phone calls that come into the office main line during business hours 9am-5pm, listens to and responds to voicemail, and routes questions accordingly to the appropriate recipient.
  • Takes membership contributions over the phone in a PCI compliant manner, and creates membership records for donors in Luminate when needed.
  • Updates donors credit card information, membership status and other information as needed.
  • Travel to Ryan Ranch as needed to pick up equipment and office supplies that have been ordered for staff.
  • Assist Robert with premium/thank you gift fulfillment.
  • Shop for items needed for fund drives and for shipping premiums to donors.
  • As needed, contact Facilities about issues that arise and then notify staff that a report has been made.
  • Using the parking code for the station, procure visitor parking permits for guests and ensure guests receive their parking permit.
  • Act as backup for fund drive donor spreadsheet data entry.
  • Make donor thank you calls.
  • Assist in contacting fund drive prizewinners for contest give away coordination.
  • Assist membership team with contacting membership drive winner
  • Communicates with University Corporation about general office (water, stationary and office supplies) ordering.

OTHER FUNCTIONS
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with a friendly, professional, and welcoming demeanor in a public-facing role.
  • Strong customer service abilities, fostering positive interactions with donors, guests, and staff in a hospitable and inclusive manner.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel), with experience in data entry, record-keeping, and donor information management.
  • Exceptional organizational and multitasking skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and maintain accuracy in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to exercise sound judgment and follow established procedures with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively, demonstrating initiative while contributing to a team-oriented environment.
  • Familiarity with office administration, including supply management, facilities coordination, and handling phone inquiries efficiently.

Education and Experience:
High School Diploma

The person holding this position is considered a "mandated reporter" under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and is required to comply with the requirements set forth in CSU Executive Order 1083 as a condition of employment.

SALARY AND BENEFITS

The hourly hiring range for this position is $22-$26. This is a non-exempt position and as such is eligible for the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act.
