- Receives supervision from the Dean of Educational Technology and Learning Resources and will become part of the Digital Equity and Distance Education team.

Responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to the following:
Evaluate and Strengthen Online Accessibility for Students Assess and document accessibility needs across student-facing digital learning environments, including the Learning Management System (Canvas) and third-party instructional technologies, to recommend an action plan for improvements and remediation projects.Participate in Digital Equity and Distance Education Committee.
Provide Technical Guidance and Direct Accessibility Support for Instruction
Offer hands-on assistance to faculty and staff in designing 508-compliant and inclusive learning experiences (online, hybrid, and career education), with emphasis on Universal Design for Learning.
Align course content with recognized rubrics and standards (e.g., California Virtual College Online Course Design Rubric, Section D Accessibility) and participate in workgroups and trainings that support alignment.
Provide one-on-one drop-in accessibility support for online career education courses in collaboration with workforce development.
Collaborate with Disability Support Services (DSS)Work with DSS to identify student-centered accessibility needs, enhance existing support services, and implement accessibility practices to support students with disabilities in online learning environments.
Support Open Educational Resources/Zero Textbook Cost InitiativesPartner with OER/ZTC faculty to offer one-on-one and small group support for accessible OER/ZTC materials.Participate in OER@DVC workgroup.Develop consistent practices, support materials, and technical assistance for creating, reviewing, and scaling accessible OER/ZTC content.
Facilitate Professional DevelopmentConduct workshops on online accessibility including Universal Design for Learning (UDL) and the use of emerging technologies (e.g., AI) for accessibility.Support college-wide trainings in online accessibility and maintain training materials through the learning management system, Canvas.Deliver ongoing coaching for faculty, staff, and administrators to increase adoption of inclusive instructional practices.
Promote Virtual Workplace AccessibilityCreate and maintain accessible templates and resources for administrative use.Audit and improve accessibility of employee-facing digital environments, including working with campus Marketing Department to train on compliance of student-facing communications.Collaborate with relevant committees and governance structures to implement accessible practices and procurement.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education/Experience:
Bachelor's Degree in education, information management, computer science, instructional design, educational development, digital media, or related field.
2 years of experience in accessibility compliance (ADA 508) and associated standards and guidelines, Universal Design for Learning (UDL), and/or accessible online course and document design.
Experience with WCAG 2.1, ADA, Section 508 compliance, and accessibility evaluation tools.
Experience with accessibility evaluation and checking tools such as WAVE, Axe, or similar.
Knowledge Of:
Knowledge of online content platforms and technologies (e.g., Canvas, Microsoft Suite, Adobe Cloud, etc.) and accessibility needs.

Ability to perform hybrid work (i.e. ability to offer online as well as on-campus trainings, support, office hours, etc.)
Desirable Qualifications:
Experience collaborating and communicating with and supporting faculty, staff, and administrative professionals in higher education and/or public education setting.
Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple projects with a focus on continuous improvement in accessibility.
Ability to work collaboratively with a team.
Certification or training in online accessibility standards, experience with assistive technologies and accessibility auditing tools, and experience analyzing and interpreting VPATs, or other vendor-reported accessibility compliance documentation.
Familiarity with the California Virtual College's Online Course Design Rubric, Section D Familiarity with open education best practices, including Creative Commons Licensing. Experience reviewing and remediating online courses, online content, digital documents, etc.

Special Instructions:
DVC is hiring an Online Accessibility Specialist, a 12-month temporary position with potential for renewal. The Online Accessibility Specialist will play a key collaborative role in advancing online accessibility at Diablo Valley College. Working closely with faculty, classified, and administrators, this specialist will provide expertise and training on technical online accessibility, oversee the remediation and revision of online materials for major projects, and ensure compliance with Section 508 and other relevant regulations through the lens of Universal Design for Learning. Through these efforts, the Online Accessibility Specialist will support the college's commitment to inclusive and equitable online experiences for all.
Professional expert position is limited to 1000 hours per fiscal year. Position reviewed at end of fiscal year and dependent on funding availability. We offer a 2/3 hybrid onsite/remote work location.
