Position Summary:
The primary location of this position is the main Cullowhee, NC campus.

The School of Teaching and Learning is seeking a full-time fixed-term position at the rank of Instructor or Teaching Assistant Professor to join the faculty of Curriculum and Instruction (EDCI). Rank to be determined upon hire. This is a 9 months per year position with an anticipated start date of August 2025. Review of applications will begin immediately and will continue until a candidate has been selected for hire.

The EDCI program serves graduate and undergraduate students in the College of Education and Allied Professions. Faculty in this program specialize in providing courses that are foundational to classrooms and schools. Additionally, EDCI faculty support all secondary education programs (English, Math, Science, and Social Sciences) and K-12 special areas (Health and Physical Education, Art, and Music). To assure support for students in their internship semester, faculty in the EDCI program should be familiar with edTPA.

In a program that highly values collaboration, the successful candidate will be expected to teach education courses for students in the Educational Curriculum and Instruction Program. Preference will be given to candidates who can work collaboratively across disciplines and with knowledge of multilingual learners. The teaching load for this position is four courses per semester.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required for this position:
The position will require teaching in the EDCI program as well as a willingness to teach in other related programs in the College of Education and Allied Professions. The successful candidate will teach face-to-face courses at the main Cullowhee campus with the potential to teach some online courses. They will teach courses in curriculum and instruction and other courses as assigned, lead seminars related to internships, and supervise interns in K-12 education settings. Consistent participation in on-campus responsibilities is expected. Candidate must meet annual performance requirements in the School of Teaching and Learning in teaching and service.
Applicants should provide evidence of qualifications and experiences. Applicants should demonstrate the potential to work collaboratively and across disciplines, contribute to the departments goals, and show successful collaboration with in-service teachers in public school settings.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Masters degree or above in Curriculum and Instruction or a related field in K-12 education from an accredited institution by the appointment date.
  • A minimum of three years of full-time teaching experience at the secondary or K-12 level
  • Eligible to obtain a NC teaching license
  • Evidence of ability to and/or experience with teaching courses at the university level
  • Evidence of ability to supervise and mentor teacher candidates;
  • Demonstrated commitment to working effectively with faculty, staff, and students from varied backgrounds.
  • Evidence of strong interpersonal and communication skills, effective collaboration, and collegiality.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • An earned doctorate in Curriculum and Instruction or related field
  • experience in online instruction and development of online courses
  • experience with teacher preparation
  • evidence of successful collaborative work across disciplines;
  • Expertise in teaching multilingual learners
  • experience and expertise in the Educational Teacher Performance Assessment (edTPA)
