In compliance with SB 1162, Western University of Health Sciences is providing a pay scale for this position. The pay scale reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for this position. Within this range, the individual pay is determined by a variety of factors, including but not limited to job-related skills, experience, relevant education or training, and work location. Please note that the compensation details listed reflects the base salary only.

Job Summary
The Telecommunications Technician assists in maintaining University
voice, networking, and 3rd-party telecommunications systems. The Telecommunications Technician proactively upkeeps, monitors, and manages the performance of critical equipment and services integral to the continuation of University telecommunication services. The Telecommunications Technician reports directly to the Senior Engineer, Network/Telecom and collaborates with Telecom, Infrastructure and Technical Support team members to provide essential services to the University.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Individuals in this position must possess the knowledge, skills, and abilities and be able to explain and demonstrate that they can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation by using inherent or other combination of skills and abilities.
- Knowledge of basic networking and telecommunication systems including experience implementing, maintaining and administering these systems. Basic knowledge of network architecture and related server designs, implementation, and support.
- Basic experience in the installation, functionality, implementation and maintenance of telecom and network-related tools and equipment.
- Skilled with voice and data-network tools, equipment, wiring and inside plant installations.
- Basic knowledge and/or experience in the administration and maintenance of call centers, client voicemail, faxing and e911 solutions.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to communicate clearly and concisely on the subject matter. Must be able to effectively interact with administration, faculty, staff and relevant outside contacts.
- Strong collaborator with a willingness to share ideas, documentation, and best practices.
- Conceptual and analytical thinker, ability to extract, analyze and document complex business and technical requirements/strategies from customers and IT team members.
- Must demonstrate attendance sufficient to complete the duties of the position as required.
- Maintain mental capacity which allows the capability of making sound decisions and demonstrating intellectual capabilities.
- Maintain effective audio-visual discrimination and perception for making observations, communicating with others, reading, writing, and operating assigned equipment.
Required Qualifications
Any combination, training, or experience equivalent to an Associate of Science degree or closely related field that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the essential job duties. At least two years of experience in working in a large business or enterprise-level telecom/network environment or related IT experience.

Must maintain a Motor Vehicle Report (MVR) that satisfies the requirements of the WesternU Vehicle Use Policy.
Ability to have regular attendance, reliability and punctuality.

Preferred Qualifications
Preference will be given to candidates with three or more years of experience working with either an enterprise level telecom/network environment or related IT experience. Any related network, telecommunication, or cyber security certifications are preferred (e.g. CompTIA). Preference will be given to candidates that have technical support experience and/or customer service experience.
