Job Summary:

The Department of Neurosurgery and Pediatrics has an opening for a full-time Research Scientist position. This position is located at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus. The Department's goal is to build a multi-disciplinary group of investigators driving research innovations and education in neuro-oncology. We are seeking expertise in neuro-oncology, tumor immunology, and computational biology. The Department is focused on developing novel translational approaches towards pediatric brain tumors, leveraging novel computational methods that integrate both visualization methods and large data set analysis. In addition to collaborating with other researchers and clinicians within the Department of Neurosurgery, we anticipate that the faculty member will develop new collaborations with other Departments and multidisciplinary groups on the Anschutz Medical Campus.

The Research Scientist will work across projects in Neurosurgical oncology and computational bioscience research that involve developing computational methods, working with human research subjects, patient biofluids, and a variety of human cell lines. The Research Scientist will need expertise in the following: advanced coding, computational visualization, bioinformatics, laboratory techniques, and data presentation.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct computational and laboratory research
  • Collaborate with other physicians-scientists and scientists both within and outside of the Department, specifically with pediatric neuro-oncology
  • Develop computational methods applicable to image analysis in neuro-oncology and neurosurgery
  • Develop novel therapeutics (including CAR-T cells, biospecific T cell engagers)
  • Research mentorship (graduate/medical students, postdoctoral fellows, residents, fellows, and research staff)
  • Obtain extramural support for studies involving the study of neuro-oncology, tumor immunology, and/or computational biology.
  • Publish high-impact manuscripts in peer reviewed journals.
  • Provide academic leadership and service to the Department, School, University and profession.

Onsite - this role is expected to work onsite and is located in Aurora, CO.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.
  • PhD in the computational biology field
  • Accomplishments and publications in the areas of neuro-oncology, tumor immunology, and computational biology

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with team-based research that integrates computational methods with laboratory research and bioinformatics
  • Experience in grant-writing, grant and manuscript review, lab operations
  • Demonstrated potential to establish an independent extramurally funded program of research

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Ability to design and conduct rigorous experiments
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees at all levels throughout the institution
  • Ability to lead and supervise others to achieve high productivity

Anticipated Pay Range:

The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established as HIRING RANGE:

$88,000 to $100,000

The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. This position is not eligible for overtime compensation unless it is non-exempt.
